Does a quality screen protector protect your screen from scratches by fingers or does it reduce the likelihood of breaking the screen once dropped to the ground?

Same question for the camera protector. Is it necessary?

At the moment, I am not using any protector but I am going to buy a new iPhone so I am thinking if it is helpful to do it. I wouldn't mind any scratches, but I'd like to know if those protectors will help to reduce likelihood of breakage in case of accident.

You absolutely should be using a screen protector, because they do work. If you drop your phone without a screen protector, the actual glass on the display will be cracked, and you'll need to get a new phone. If the screen protector is on there, it's more likely that the screen protector will suffer damage, and then you only have to pay $20 or whatever for a new one.

I also noticed some pretty bad delamination on mine after about a year (it just seemed to start to do that randomly), so I got it replaced at a local shop (that does it for cheap, unlike Apple)

I dropped my phone a couple of times from a meter height. There was no damage to the screen at all. Did you mean kind of drop from a few meters or more?

A good case w/a screen protector & camera protector is totally worth the investment. It is just another layer of protection for your phone & will help to keep your phone safe & keep it from getting damaged if/when you drop it which you will do more often than you may think you will. Invest in it at the beginning & you won't have to worry about it in the future. As they say spend once cry once. It is truly worth the investment considering the investment/cost of the phone it's self. The better care u take care of your phone the more it is worth when you are ready to update & get a new phone.

Because ANY imperfection on the screen freaks me out, my new iPhones don't leave the Apple Store without a tempered glass screen protector. I can abide a small ding on the body of the phone but the screen must be pristine. Even those nearly invisible swirl marks on a screen will unhinge me so a screen protector is necessary for me.

I've also had my phone screen saved by tempered glass. I dropped my iPhone 6 Ultra and it landed on the pavement, face down, on a pebble. The screen protector shattered but absorbed all the impact. Peeled it off in pieces and replaced it, but the actual phone screen was unblemished. And so began my #1 rule: Always a tempered glass screen protector. I have the Apple Store install it at checkout. They have this cool jig that makes the install perfect, and in about 2 minutes. Then a silicone case and I'm good to go.

I've tried all different aftermarket cases but always come back to the genuine Apple silicones. Simple, great fit, ample protection, and enough colors to keep me happy. I've found that in cases, you get what you pay for.

Is Belkin a good brand for screen protectors?

A tempered glass screen protector is only necessary if you are concerned about scratches and want to protect against the possibility of cracking your display. If damage is not a big deal then it is not necessary. Personally I always use a Spigen GlasTR cause damage is a concern for me.

Absolutely, yes, especially when the Apple Store sells them and can even install them. Plus their customer service is second to none, at least for me.
I don't actually agree. The "genius" in my area is really bad.

Never used a screen protector on any phone for 10+ years, never had a crack and in my now 18+ months 13PM no scratches either.
I do use a case, always the Apple leather cases with the exception for my 13PM I’m using the Apple clear case one.
Phone dropped a few times but no damage whatsoever to the phone.
I do use a holster vs pocket.

No intentions on ever using a screen protector but I do have AC+ for just in case

Fortunately, in my area, the Apple Store sells 2 kinds of Belkin screen protector: one that you can put on at home, and includes an easy box-applicator, and another kind that a store employee installs in the store with a more complicated box applicator. These aren't really do it yourself, in this way.

Screen Protectors are very important to protect your device from Scratches, Cracks and Dents. For Screen, I suggest you getting a really good quality Tempered Glass (I'm stressing "Really Good Quality" because many of the Glasses online are poor in quality) since they act as a second layer glass for your screen so the initial impact would always be taken care by the Tempered itself. You can use a Clear or Matte Screen Protector Film for other sides of the device apart from Screens in my opinion.
I have used Tempered from both Belkin and Gadgetshieldz but I feel GS does a way more better job since their X-Glas Ultra Tempered Glasses are made with actual Corning Gorilla Glass just like the ones that come on all phones nowadays so its like you have 2 Corning Glasses on your phone. Belkin's Tempered actually broke after 2 drops. Also I found it difficult to apply the Belkin one by myself, whereas, X-Glas comes with an Installation Tray so its easier to put it.

It is only important if you are bothered about scratches on your screen. The glass Apple use is fairly soft in regards to surface hardness as it is supposed to be more resistent to cracks when dropped. The downside of this is the screen is easily scratched.

Traded in a 6+ for an 8+, the 8+ was traded in for a 13. 6+ was kept in a Magpul case, all others Apple leather case. None had screen protectors.

Apple Store employee commented on how pristine my phones were at trade in. I work in industrial environments all over the world.

I have a pocket just for my phone, nothing else. I also carry a minimal amount of keys, wear a watch (been an Apple Watch since the series 3 or 4), and use an earpiece for phone calls. I also don’t walk around with my head up my as face in my phone, so I rarely drop my phone.

It’s my understanding that modern iPhone screens are tougher than the screen protectors, therefore I feel they are a waste of money. Just because your screen protector cracks, it doesn’t mean your screen would have.

Your understanding is incorrect. A decent tempered glass screen protector costs as little as £10 and is much more durable than the screen underneath. iPhone screens are soft and scratch fairly easily, and not everybody handles their iPhone as delicately as you have claimed you do. I really can’t see the advantage of not using one to be honest? Once you’ve scratched the screen it is permanent and all for the sake of not using something which is effectively invisible.

I like to have one from Spigen: as I use my iphone naked most of the time, it allow me to set it screen down (and flat) on tables.
