Bought an SE 2020 during the summer of 2021. I use it for notifications, checking email, directions and as a watch. I see some open box SE 2022s at Best Buy at a good price and they are offering a good trade in value for my SE 2020.

I see some value in getting a faster device, potentially more support going forward and one with a less worn battery but not sure. Was wondering if its a worthwhile upgrade?

Better battery and faster chip. That's about it. If you're current se is lasting you long enough then save your money.

Edit. For some strange reason I replied thinking about SE Iphones.

In regards to the SE watches I do believe the 2022 model did get a chip upgrade.

I would not. I think the SE is a great stepping stone into the AW world, but the other watches bring a bunch of new features.

I'm late 40s. I had an SE (Gen 1) as I wasn't sure if AW was for me and it (SE) was a good value introduction to the product line. But then when I realized how much I loved the product, and how much I could adapt to the every day charging cycle, I went with an S8 for the advanced health features (again, late 40s).

The SE was not updated this year so it's likely that it will be refreshed next year. I think the SE Gen 2 is great value for money but upgrading from an SE Gen 1 I'm not sure makes that much sense. I would either hold off until next year and see what the SE Gen 3 brings, assuming there is one, or I would look for a deal on an S7/S8 and get a bunch of additional functionality.
