Basically I have an opportunity to purchase a gently used Series 4 Hermes watch with the orange sport band and the original box and packaging for a fairly decent price ($300). I currently have a Series 5 SS right now.
My question is would it be worth to buy it in 2022? Is it worth it just to have? What are some reasons to have a second watch? Especially 2 SS models?
Thanks for the input guys, I don’t know why this is so hard for me to decide on.

My motto is always “if I don’t know if something is ok to do, it probably is not ok to do”.
As for second watch, I don’t think there’s too much use out of it unless as a backup of sort.

I have a watch 4 aluminum that I use to work out, do yard work, camp. I have an apple watch 7 in ss that I use for work and such. So for me, I like having an older watch that I don't care if it gets beat up and a newer one for work and so on. I don't know about the hermes part - but I think there are reasons to have two watches

You mentioned the orange sport band, but are you getting the leather Hermes band? For $300 I’d only be buying at that price for the band as new ones go for about $500. There’s nothing special about the watch case other than it has Hermes stamped on it and you get extra watch faces.

I own a S4 and S2 Edition. Use the old watch for overnight heart rate / sleep tracking and it allows me to wear a watch 24/7 without worrying about battery life or charging so really a convenience proposition. I could also see owning two depending on job or activity. A cheaper one that you wear doing yard work or exercise that you don’t care if it gets beat up and scuffed around the house and one that you take extra care of and wear in public.

I agree. One less expensive version for sleep tracking and workouts and one fancy one for public.

Hence I think the Hermes one should be the one that is newer than your current watch. Since you already have the SS5, I would wait until maybe series 8 comes out and see if you can score a good price on an Hermes AW7.

I personally wouldn’t spend that much without the leather band. I have multiple watches but all are different finishes/color. My titanium ones are for regular wear ( natural for weekends and black for weekdays) and aluminum for sleep tracking. If Hermes is also same SS finish as your other SS then even more reason to not bother with it.

Having two watches to swap means never having to wait for charging.

You could use one for sleep tracking and one for day use. Or if you don’t care about the always on display much, you could just swap one for the other when the battery runs out.

Nah for $300 its not worth it. If you can score s5+ that’s good stuff because of AOD.
No AOD = No Watch

Based on everyone’s input, I’ve decided against it, I’m only interested in a second watch for working out, but mainly sleep tracking. I’m thinking about getting a Series 3 or 2 in Stainless Steel, hopefully I can find one for decent price.

You can most likely find a series 4 (aluminum) for around $100 if you look hard enough. Perfect for sleep tracking (no AOD) and has the more modern form factor than series 2/3.

Series 2 and 3 are so feature limited and they are on the end of the support line, it’s just bad for sleep tracking and maybe workout unless the deal is insanely cheap. Series 4 should be the way to go.
