So, I made an effort to correct Siri's pronunciation of several names and she was able to correctly say them back, but when I called those names again, she is back reverting them to the old, butchered names. WTF Siri? Does anyone know why the corrected names do not stick with Siri? Is there a trick to make her remember the updated pronunciations?

Yes, in the Contacts app you can add a phonetic name for Siri.

For example, on macOS, press the + at the bottom of a contact card.

On iOS, scroll to the bottom of a contact, tap 'add field' and add a phonetic name there.

I thought that the phonetic name was the "old school" (ios6) of fixing this problem and Siri was the modern current way of achieving the same?

Siri is never the same Siri. When you ask something, it goes out to Apple's servers and conducts a search for how to answer your questions.

So what you taught Siri, is overridden by what the actual "Siri" in the sky knows on that date.

But yes, there are workarounds like the phonetic contact option.

Without being told otherwise, you are relying on an ever evolving Siri. And her evolution is controlled by gathering information from everyone and absorbing it into the Siri brain server.

Naturally, Apple is also controlling her evolution. Otherwise, Siri might become self aware and suddenly decide to fix the human condition. Lol. :D

Me??? No I haven't watched Terminator too many times. Why do you ask???

Correct. But if the Siri option isn't working then this is another way to go.

In theory you should be able to correct a pronunciation by telling Siri how to pronounce a name: http://www.imore.com/how-to-teach-siri-to-pronounce-a-name-correctly - and even Siri in the Sky (a successor to iTunes in the Cloud, surely?! :D) should remember it! :p

But I guess it's just not working for OP.
