The point that i think was being made is: I think people who position the “real’ reason not to get a SS version is because you probably dont have disposable income and framing themselves as the rare people who appreciate the finer things are maybe unconsciously attempting to apply some peer pressure. Feels strange. There are plenty of reasons to get an aluminum version that are separate from income or refined tastes c’mon.
edit: one personal example: i ordered a SS 5 for today but cancelled when i found that great deal on a SS 4 here. ive been wearing mine for a week and tbh im less motivated to go to the gym because its not really designed or built for that specific purpose. its more of a “dress” watch. if i was someone who liked to wear a “real” fancy watch when i went out id probably be happier with the aluminum for a daily wear. also, there are some bands that work *really* well with the aluminum that dont really work with SS imo. stone leather loop with a silver aluminum case is pretty stylish as a sporty look. so as it is, instead of buying 2 watches ill likely alternate years and use the SS more rarely for when im dressed more appropriately. and my upgrade cadence will reflect that.
and i consider myself someone with disposable income but not so much that it makes me frivolous with it or will buy something that doesnt suit me just because it seems fancier or more money but worthless to my functional or contextual needs. savings aside, 250 dollars can buy a pretty nice guitar pedal or two i dont need, or a few more records. theres always some additional excuse to conspicuously consume, and some reasons feel better than others
hope im not causing arguments or hurting anyones feelings.
