M macgrl macrumors 65816 Original poster Oct 14, 2008 #1 I am wondering whether to shell out the extra money for the ssd on the mbp. Is it worth it. Thanks
carfac macrumors 65816 Oct 14, 2008 #2 No. CHeaper to gte on your own, and now easy to change it out!
H hellfire88 macrumors 6502 Oct 14, 2008 #4 Agree with above posters. The new MBP has the hard drive bay under one cover next to the battery, so very easy for you to change it out. I think 128GB SSDs go for as low as $500 now, if not less, so Apple charging ~$4k is kinda crazy.

ntrigue macrumors 68040 Oct 14, 2008 #7 There's already a review showing the ease of replacement. It's EXTREMELY easy so wait a few months and buy it on Newegg.com for half-price.

M Mikebuzzsaw macrumors 6502 Oct 14, 2008 #8 Too bad switching out the HDD voids warranty on the entire laptop.... right?
quidire macrumors 6502 Oct 14, 2008 #9 er the SSD upgrade is $450; that's a really good price... Where are you getting $4K from?
