For those with the ultra and the 45 mm watch, can you tell me if text appears any larger/easier to read on the ultra? I know the screen is only marginally larger but I keep watching reviews where people always comment about the larger screen being easier to read but not sure I’m convinced.

I ask because I have a vision impairment which affects my ability to read small text. I really enjoy having an Apple Watch but i can’t really read messages on it as the text is too small for me even on the largest setting. When I saw the ultra announced with ‘larger’ screen it was a no brainier that I would get it but I haven’t yet when I realised it was so marginal. My nearest Apple Store isn’t particularly close so appreciate any opinions of people who have both.

Cheers!

I don't think the text is noticeable larger, but reading it on a flat screen rather than one with curved edges helps me. But if you have difficulty, increase the font size in Settings > Accessibility. That works with all Apple Watches.

I don't think text is any larger - I can't read it without my glasses when I look at my partner's ultra or when I am using my 7

I traded in my S4 so I can’t do a direct comparison … but the Ultra is waaaaay easier on my old eyes. So long as I have my glasses on (progressives with astigmatism correction), I’ll unhesitatingly use it for messages, email, etc. But without my glasses … if I squint enough, I can make it out ...

That you can’t read messages on your current watch means there’s a real chance the improvement still isn’t enough; however, if there’s somewhere anywhere “close enough” that you can have a look at one in person, I’d really suggest doing so. No promises, but there’s reason to hope that it’s enough for you to manage.

Unless you want to potentially deal with returns, though, I’d definitely suggest “try before you buy."

Have you tried increasing the text size to the largest option. Of course it would mean more scrolling but it might make it easier to read the text. I have both the 44mm series 5 and the Ultra and I would say like for like text size it’s not a huge difference. That said the larger and also flat display of the Ultra does make a difference. I think you really need to try for yourself though.

Thanks. Yes I already use the largest font size and given I already have a 45mm watch, I suspect the difference in text size is pretty much nothing. From the comments the flat screen seems to help readability a little but it’s the text size that matters most to me
