My guess: people who used to like the 11" MBA now like and buy the 12" MB (myself included). People who used to like the 13" MBA will continue to like and buy the new 13" MBA (I'm guessing the majority). We didn't discuss about one MBA killing the other back then. Why is this a thing now?

Because of the pricing. We didn't discuss about one MBA killing the other because 11' MBA was priced LOWER than the 13'. This is being discussed because it makes no sense whatsoever to keep the rMB at $1299 and MBA at $1199. Not really rocket science tbh. It's like Honda pricing the Civic above the Accord. lol.

For an apples to apples comparison, one would have to upgrade the SSD of the MBA to 256 GB at which point it is a $1399. But if someone is looking for cheapest entry to macOS in a notebook regardless of specs then the $1199 MBA is it.

I'm guessing it might be merged back into the Air line (i.e. rebranded 12" MacBook Air) effectively becoming the successor to the 11" Air it always really was in name also. That would free up the MacBook name for something to perhaps succeed the 13" nTB in between the Airs and Pros in performance (15W/ U series?).

Apple will wait at least couple months before releasing new MB because they are afraid to cannibalize sales of new MBA. Hoping for a silent refresh early next year and ARM version late 2019
