Between these two, is there really a big difference in camera quality worth paying the extra 300€ (in Europe)?

Not just in pictures, but also in video quality.

Apart from that, any other benefits going for the Pro (main one I see is the RAM upgrade)?

The main difference is the 5x lens. For the main camera it’s negligible.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a true 4x optical zoom with a 48MP sensor, unlike the iPhone 16 Pro Max which has a true 5x optical zoom with a 12MP sensor...

8x actually, with the 17 Pro, versus 2x for the 17.

To me, the zoom lens is certainly worth the extra cost. I honestly use my phone for just 3 main purposes: CarPlay, audio, and camera. I want those 3 to be the best they can. As @Tsepz said there’s a minor difference in main sensor as well; again to me that’s negligible. But the zoom lens is not.

That’s my calculus on it but as always: My needs are not your needs.
