you are probably not going to get 8 hrs of battery life in windows. I'd go for a dell xps 15 instead, based on your usage model.

Can anybody tell me actually what the battery life is on the macbook with the dedicated graphics card is when running windows through bootcamp? Since the 750m has to run apparently?

I haven't actually run down the battery yet, but the estimate win 8.1 gives is around 4-5 hours.

And what about cases? Yay or nay?

a sleeve makes sense. Cases are silly in my opinion.

I currently have the 2.6/16/1 TB/750 M.

My idle CPU averages 70%. Does this mean I can go with a 2.3?

In the list of what matters most to me in a laptop: the heat (what I feel under the palm rests) is high on the list.

NOTE: the iStat screenshots for idle CPU shows 95% because I had dashboard open and it took me a few seconds to get the screenshot.

Could you screenshot both the 2.6 and the 2.3 machine? Would love to see a compare of them. (including the battery part). 95% looks painful on a lap. If possible, try to let them run for 20 minutes before checking those temps just to see.

Is the 2.3Ghz enough?

A CPU clock speed change that small doesn't really effect the idle. It's used when the CPU is under a big load, like encoding in Handbrake.

I will look at the 2.3 tomorrow and post screenshots.

I edited my post -- I may have caused confusion with my statement about heat. I intended to state that in my list of what matters most on a laptop: heat is high on the list. (Did not mean to imply 2.6 generates high amount of heat)
