After college deal it’s $875 at Best Buy. It’s almost a $400 difference between the 2016 and the 2017. Surely the 2017 isn’t that much better is it?

I'm having the same conundrum. After the student coupon and tax the 2016 model is $932.80 versus the 2017 model's 1279.55.

Is there $350 worth better tech in the 2017 model?

Same! Considering...

2016 MacBook for $879

2016 MacBook Pro for $1039

Or waiting for Black Friday or any other deal on the 2017 models. I was all set on the 2016 models, until I saw that the Kaby Lake 2017 models had a 20-30 % performance increase in benchmarks! Quite significant, but not sure if this shows in real usage.

Then there is also the better keyboard on the MacBook 2017..

Ah what the hell I might just wait. Apple should probably reduce the price to $999 on the MacBook soon anyway right?

If the keyboard in the 2017 MacBook, is the same as the one in the 2017 MacBook Pro, it is a great keyboard. Takes some getting used to at first, but now I love it.

Depends on the workflow.
For most things, any of the offering will be more than capable of doing anything you want.

If you have basic workflow -- word processing, media consumption, social media, web browsing -- the 2016 12" MacBook is more than enough.

It's much more capable than just browsing or work processing.

You'll have no issues doing just about anything with it. Granted its not as good as the 2017 version that out performs the MBA, but its not one track pony either.

Exactly, for what most people use a macbook for it's good enough. The keyboard is the biggest difference as there isn't a well needed 2nd usb c or TB3 port on the 2017's anyway. The SSD speed increase isn't a big deal either.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Great portability, battery and a screen that's from this century.

Enjoy

Thanks! I already have the 2017 MacBook Pro w Touch Bar, but wanted this too for the portability.

do you know what is the score of 2016 version on Geekbench 4?
I notice that MBP 2016 score higher on Geekbench 4 than on 3
