Is The 360 DVD Player Region Free?

Is it? Done some googling and wikiing, have only found stuff about the HDDVD drive, but is the good ol' DVD9 drive region free as well?

No, the DVD part is region encoded. HD DVD's have no region...

However technically the DVD part is region less but the player and 360 are encoded to that region.

Hence when you plug the HD-DVD into tiger, and put a DVD inside, it asks what do you want to set the region too ?

Ah, pity... Anyone know if the alternative drive firmware has any effect? (probably not, just checking in case)
