The black bezel is absolutely positively better for perceived contrast. It's a simple fact of optical physics. No way around it.

Before i sold it I skinned my kindle 2 (which was white) with a black gelaskin and the improvement was remarkable. If you prowl the kindle forums you see this is a common thing to do. And now guess what color amazon makes the kindle 3?....

Also why Amazon stopped making white Kindles and went with charcoal.
 
Hmm I was just about to comment that my white Kindle 2 doesn't bother me in the slightest - but I must admit, I never tried it with a black border (skinned or the Kindle 3).

I still lean toward white, but I'll want to use one before buying to confirm it's a non-issue for me.
 
Yes, but the kindle is primarily for reading books. You will be doing plenty of things on your iPad not just reading text. I still think white vs. black will not turn your world upside down or cause you some great pain to use.


Although, I guess if you really want to be technical..then yes black is probably better suited for you eyes in certain circumstances.
