Is the data plan necessary for the iphone with tmobile

It's stupid to have to pay for the data plan when the iphone only works with tmobile's 2g network and I am sick of having to pay the extra 30 odd dollars for the service as well. If I do take the data plan off and only browse the internet when I'm connected to wifi, will tmobile still charge me per each MB used?

In my experience, you can't get a data plan with T-Mo even if you want to, but perhaps you're grandfathered.

The answer to your question is no. You will not be charged for data over Wifi.
