that's simple... I'm an old geezer.... sometimes when I really want to write something, I take my old typewriter out of the closet. :) I can stream MLB baseball games on my TV, phone, laptop and tablet... but I still enjoy listening to the game on local AM radio! (fortunately, there are still AM stations in my area) :)
😊 Fair enough. It’s the simple things.

Push to start seems pointless. Like trying to pretend that we're firing up an F1 car or something ferocious. Also when the car stalls it's much more logical (to me) to turn the key rather than to faff about with a button. Plus within 2 years the start button on my Audi would only work if I pressed it firmly dead centre.
The point with push to start is you never have to remove keys from your pocket or purse and find the ignition, possibly in the dark. Literally just push a button.

I am also an old geezer also but spent 45 plus years working on vehicles. I take the push button start any day. The main reason is it makes the steering column a lot less crowded they were able to get rid of the large mechanic switch with rods key readers and linkages that eventually wear out with a simple fob reading switch that powers on and off the vehicle. The push button start stop switch is much easier to replace and it simplifies repairs.

my all-time favorite car was my Saab 9-5(and the 9000 Aero before that)..... yes, the quirky cars with ignition switch in the middle and the keys rattling while you drive around. Still sad that Saab is gone... :(

I’m still toying with the idea of getting a 14 pro but have read several blogs and user comments saying the dynamic island is really annoying and enlarges too often with alerts/notifications blocking pets of the screen.

I know you can swipe to ‘close’ it but does it get irritating after a while, or is it really not a big deal?
I love the dynamic island. It’s not annoying at all

You're still wondering, aren't you? Just buy the phone and use it. It's YOUR phone, not anyone else's phone. YOUR experience matters, not the experience of other people.

Just use the damn phone and be happy. Why do you care if person A doesn't like the DI but person B absolutely loves it? It won't impact the slightly your experience in the end.

So if you were given the option of a full screen with no notches or holes in it you would say no, that you want a big lozenge-shaped hole in your display for notifications etc? Seriously?

I've had my 14 pro max for three days. I don't notice the dynamic island any more than the previous notch. The only thing that is noticeable and annoying of this phone is how heavy and hard to grab it is.

I think you missed the point. Of course only I can decide, but before I take the punt I’d like to get a general idea. I don’t have easy access to try before I buy. I’m on the Apple upgrade program meaning I have to hand in my current phone so if I change my mind I can’t get my current phone back.

It is what it is. If you like iPhones then you will get used to it. Certainly no biggie but it is way overhyped as a positive by fanbois.

I don’t notice it until it’s actively doing something, in which case it’s delivering useful information, which it generally does quickly before getting back out of the way. It’s excellent: there when it needs to be seen, faded into the background when it has nothing to say. It also puts all kinds of stuff that used to show up in various places and formats in one predictable spot, delivered with a consistent look and feel.

It really is awesome, the opposite of annoying. It’s one of those things that, once you’ve seen it in action, you can’t understand how no one ever thought of it before (though you can certainly understand why the folks on the Android side were so eager to copy it).

For added context, I upgraded from a XS Max to a 14 Pro Max, so the relatively small pill cutout that houses the Dynamic Island is a noticeable improvement on the big notch I’ve been used to for years now.

Just lile the notch, I pretty well ignore or blank it out and don’t even notice what it is doing.

What? Whenever the island expands it is for a reason.

On older devices, that means something else would happen instead.

For example, if the FaceID thing expands from the island, on older devices you will see that square right in the middle of the screen.

So it is actually less annoying.

For "now playing" thing in the island, it doesn't expand unless you tap it -- wanting it to expand.

So I would say those comments are either from people who has not used the Pro 14 or they have committed some user errors. Maybe they keep messing the the island and then blame it for being annoying because it responds.

as long as iPhones have a camera in the front there is always going to be a hole or notch in it. Apple made it useful. I like how incoming calls and Face ID do not fill the whole screen anymore. If apple put just the camera hole iPhone would look like an android phone.

And it’s not only the camera that resists „in the hole“. It’s the whole FaceID sensors like IR and the flood illuminator.
Those little gimmicks that make FaceID really work compared to the lousy iterations of it Android devices are using.

So yes, as long as FaceID components under the screen don’t work as good as they do within a „hole“, I am completely good with the solution Apple came up with.

Not to me! I LOVE Dynamic Island. It's basically like a "status update" for your phone IMO. I can easily get back to where I was if I have a process running

No. It's my favorite feature. Seriously. It's a lot of fun. There are some things it could do a little better, but I think it's great. It will definitely improve over time.

It doesn’t get in the way anymore than the notch but it doesn’t do anything all that useful either. It’s a wash.
