Just wanted to let you all know that I picked up a 15inch mbp with the high res and anti glare (the glossy looks great but I am working on photos in various lighting conditions and the reflections would have got to me in the end)

Also got a case, a portable HD to act as time machine. The apple store threw in one to one membership worth £79 for free. They said because I was a loyal customer. Over the past 18 months I have had 2 ipads, 2 iPhone 4, a Mac pro and a MacBook air (going on bay soon).

Thanks again for the help

Josh

Yes, it is worth it. I got the HiRes AG and love it!

+1

this screen is completely awsome! Im a photographer also, cant praise the hi res AG enough. Everyone I know who has the lower res glossy see's mine and instantly weep!

High res AG allllll the way!

They won't do it, more people are returning the hi-res screens for the low-res rather than vice versa according to Apple our Apple Business Rep ... reason font's too small and eyestrain....
That's great for people who want to buy refurbs, like me! My i7 refurb was readily available because so many people have been returning the new ones.

Wow, talk about a split in opinion on this one..

How does this factor into gaming? Does 1280x look worse on the high res than on the standard res 15"? Because that puny 330M isn't going to be playing anything released in the last 4 years at 1680x...

Starting Law school

Being that I will be reading non-stop, both real books and my future MacbookPro, should I not opt for the High-Res screen then? I plan to visit my local Apple store soon, but wanted to know if anyone else does a lot of reading on a High-Res, or at least has a High-Res, and if they feel that it's harder to read than the 14x9 would.

You could always zoom in if you're having a hard time. Visiting the Apple store and A/Bing the two screens is definitely the best way to get a feel for the two resolutions.

I will need a new Macbook Pro very soon. But I'm having a problem paying a premium for the higher resolution screen when such higher resolutions are standard on competing notebooks.

Does anyone know whether Apple will make the HR screen standard on MBP soon? Probably this fall? Any opinions?

The anti-glare is a nice feature but not necessary. I don't really understand Apple's logic for charging more for HR screens - they have been sticking with the current low-res screen for nearly 4 years. What gives?

Plays Bad Company 2 fine under low/medium settings @ 1680x1050, StarCraft 2 on Medium/High at 1680x1050 as well.

there is alot of reading in lawschool. the high res screen makes the font real small.

Thanks for the comments, definitely plan on visiting the Apple store before weeks end. Sorry for hijacking your thread Josh_bear.

Obviously, I don't want to strain my eyes anymore than they already are, but feel like it's a shame to miss the opportunity for better resolution viewing of pictures, HD movies, etc.

check them out at the apple store. the high res will make case reading on westlaw/lexis small. advantage would be 2 windows side by side.
