Wow, AT&T is nuts. Claiming I've used 1.2 GB of data between 8/11 and 8/23.

I wiped and boxed up and listed my iPhone 5 on 8/14, sold it on 8/17, shipped it on 8/18. During this time I purchased a Straight Talk device with totally different phone number and my AT&T SIM has just been sitting in my original iPhone ever since.

So I supposedly used 1.2 GB of data between 8/11 and 8/14 considering I'm at work 12 hours a day on wifi and go straight home after work on wifi as well. Dang, I must use a TON of data during my 10 minute drive to work each day.

This is unreal - I couldn't imagine being on a 2 or 3 GB capped plan with AT&T's bogus data usage claims! Now I'm extra glad I'm on an unlimited plan!

Sorry but that use is very possible!

same here i have a family plain with 4 iPhones each with unlimited data and I will keep it forever if ATT will play with me. I WILL MOVE TO VERIZON OR T_MOBIL THE SAME DAY.

you realize you will save almost $100 a month if you switch to Shared Plan? Unless you use tons of data and enjoy being throttled to 56k, I suggest you save some money and spend the extra $100 on booze or hookers.

Grandfathered UDP is cheaper for me. I'm on a single line account. See link below and tell me if I'm wrong. Granted I could pay an extra ~$25 for 10 GB unthrottled data, hot spot, and unlimited talk.

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/19715165/

If you are on single line, of course you wouldn't want share plan, I mean, who are you going to 'share' with??

I have unlimited and would be fine moving to a 10gb shared plan but it's not cost effective to drop our current plan.

FamilyTalk Nation 550 w/ Rollover - $50
Data Unlimited for iPhone - $30.00
Messaging 200 - $5.00
2nd phone plan - $24.99
2nd phone data/text - $21.30
FAN Discount - −$17.60
Taxes/fees: - $14.60
TOTAL: $128.29

This is with a $15 overage data fee. NEXT would be more per month. We don't upgrade every 2 years, my wife does every 3 or so. I maybe every 2.5.

I have unlimited on 2 lines and 3 GB on another. I may look into this to see if it would drop. I run the report and only went over 10 GB 1 time in the last 1.5 years. The others were well under 10. Typically around 7.

If you do the 10 GB shared, you have to use next everytime? Or they raise your rates after every upgrade? Like I upgrade now and my rates go up, I upgrade same line 2 years later and rates go up again? Is that correct?

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been with apple since the very first iphone in 2007 so I have unlimited data. But after running the report on the AT&T website, I see that I'm only using about 3 GB per month. I think it's time I consider switching plans. Part of me still wonders if I will regret the decision later though...

It is my understanding that NEXT or 2 YR contract has nothing to do with switching to Shared Plan. I believe its a simple plan switch for all your lines regardless of which contract you have.

As I said earlier, if you are riding solo, keep your 'Unlimited til 5GB' plan. It will still be cheaper if you got regular 5GB plan. I find share plan works best in terms of savings if you have 3 or more lines.

Typically between 3-5 gb a month. If you hit 5gb in a month, they throttle you for the following month... the throughput is next to unusable.

Do you they throttle you for the following month too? I thought it was just for the remainder of the current billing cycle.

I could share with my iPad and MacBook Pro :)

feasible, but not likely you used almost 2GB in few days. In my experience, data app and ATT app matches pretty well so I would say it is pretty accurate.

Well they also claim I use 3 GB every month which I've always been amazed by because, again, I'm on wifi 90% of my life and it's not as if I watch Netflix or something when I'm out in public. And I don't listen to Pandora or any other streaming service.

My brother who is with Verizon has an hour long drive to work each way daily and listens to Pandora in his car via his phone nearly the whole time to and from work somehow uses less than what AT&T claims I use.

My wife and I both have the unlimited plan for AT&T. I would entertain switching but the AT&T Next plan seems like it would cost me more. I switch phones every 2 years to the newest phone, while my wife usually switches to whatever iPhone is free (she will be getting a 5C in a couple weeks). I tried to figure out if AT&T Next would be cheaper but their website is really damn confusing and I have no idea how my corporate discount would apply.

I am assuming that if AT&T Next saved me money, then AT&T wouldnt be so eager to push everyone to it....

Heres our bill....

Nope. Lately I've been averaging 12GB monthly.

Can't beat that for $30/month. Not to mention that I never have to worry about overages, and can do whatever I want without having the slightest concern of how much data it uses.

I'll keep it as long as they let me (which may not be much longer from what I understand... they are pushing HARD to get people off the UL. The latest rumor I hear is that they are going to cripple throttled speeds even more, which, if true, WOULD render it obsolete. For now though, it's insanely awesome.).

Sorry but that use is very possible!

I'm not saying it's IMPOSSIBLE. Of course it's possible to use that much data in three days.

I'm saying for ME it is impossible to use that much data during a three day period during the week. I do NOT watch videos on my phone at work, I do NOT stream music on my phone at work. I do NOT get on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or anything of the sort. I don't have time for that first of all, and secondly it would be inappropriate with my job for me to be screwing around on my phone all day. Literally the only thing I do during the day at work on my phone is text and iMessage. And that is all on wifi!

The ONLY time I am off wifi during the week is during my 6 mile drive to and from work each day.

I agree, I have multiple lines and the savings far outweigh the benefits for me. I also have unlimited on my iPad. Hanging on to that one. :D

I'm not sure if you still have a smartphone, but I suggest you download any data app and keep track of your use. You might be leaking data in the background from something that is causing the high data rate. It will show you exactly what is using how much data so you can track down the leak and fix it.

Or ATT just ****ed you. I wouldn't be that surprised.

I can assure you right now, NEXT will raise your monthly bill for sure, no doubt about it. 2 YR Contract is ALWAYS cheaper monthly and overtime, most people go with NEXT since they do not have 200~500$ to pay upfront for their devices.

My current plan is cheaper. Me on Unlimited and my wife on 2GB with 750 minutes comes out to be $151/m total after taxes and my FAN discount.

With the $100 10gb mobile share base plan + $40 for each of our phones it comes out to be $180/m before taxes. After my 20% FAN discount it would be $144/m before taxes.

Keep it, as I said before, It is really only worth it at 3 lines or more. I have my mother and wife and myself in my account and pay $170 a month, which used to be $250 a month with myself having 'unlimited' data.

So if you upgrade the same line 3 times over the course of several years they will up your monthly bill all 3 times?

I recent thread here made me wonder about this. My wife and I both have 45 minutes, the old $10/1000 text plan and unlimited data. She never goes near 5gb, I am usually around or a bit above 4 gig, every once in a while I am over 5gb. Have not noticed throttling yet, but like I said, it is not like I am going over 5gb every month.

We have two iPads on a share plan and I wonder if we could just add the phones on and get 20 gigs of data and come out ahead. The ipads are on a separate account really, so I am not sure how that would work. I guess I need to head by the ATT store next after we get our new phones and things die down a bit to see what they can do.

Cancelled my "unlimited" plan for this iPhone. It was total junk after 5 gigs anyway, and now I have hotspot. It isn't really "unlimited" if the data stream is so slow after 5 gigs that it's nearly impossible to get to 10 gigs. I'd rather have 10 gigs full speed PLUS the hotspot.

How much more do you pay per month though.

It won't up your bill by several times. Once you sign 2 YR contract and pay the upgrade fee which can be waived, then you should just be able to pay the monthly shared plan cost until you upgrade again in 2 years. Bill will stay the same.
