i am planing to buy mine tomorrow and i was wondering because i see that there is a i7 dual core and a i7 quad core for the 15" and up i know that speed is a big factor in the difference but is it that different? and mind you i have a 2.16 dual core 17" macbook pro is the 13" different to mine in speed buy way to much?

Edit: I Dj and produce music with music production software (ableton, Logic, Reason)

It's a big difference if you were to utilize it. As in do you encode videos often? Stuff like that. For gaming, no you'll be bottlenecked by the IGP before you hit the max on the CPU.

If you have to ask then you probably dont need it.

i am asking because my mac is giving me screen problems that cost to much to repair and i also have keyboard problems and i dj so taking the 17" to a gig is bulky

my MBA can run ableton and traktor simultaneously and sync'd, driving a USB powered audioBox. no issues whatsoever. I assume i7 13" would do a lot better. but the MBA is sooo freaking portable!

does the MBA use firewire? I have a digital console that uses that

It doesn't use firewire, and really isn't a whole lot more powerful than your current computer, if at all. I'd go MBP, and i5 or i7 is up to you.

thanks i did have my hart set for the MBP, just wanted a second opinion

Either of the new gen 13" models are overkill for DJing, not that it's a bad thing. I produce music and occasionally DJ and my 2.4ghz core 2 duo has never even hiccuped. If you've got the cash go for the i7 but either way you'll be happy.
