Can you install an ssd while keeping the hdd??

you have to remove the optical disc drive (also voids the warranty). search "optibay"

I'll be ordering the new 13" (lower end) shortly, and want to go with SSD. As the optical drive has no value for me, I'm thinking of putting the SSD in place of the SuperDrive instead of the HD. I haven't really been following the SSD market, but did a few hours of research last night to learn about what to get. Still some questions though...

Apparently Intel 510 is just around the corner, but what is the difference between 510 and X-25M G3? I tried to figure it out comparing 310 and X-25M G2, but to me it looks like 310 is mSATA and for OEMs only. If it's the same thing with the 510, wouldn't that rule it out here?

Another question is that some people speak really highly of their OWC Mercury Extreme Pro drives, and others can't seem to wait for the upcoming OCZ Vertex 3, while yet others recommend not to use SandForce drives with OS X. Is this just a matter of priorities, some want top of the line performance while others value simplicity and reliability?

I'm in no rush, so could go with the HD only for a couple of months to wait for something new to start shipping, be it Intel, Vertex 3, or OWC (anybody know when they'll be releasing an update?) I'm also thinking of putting the SSD in the optical drive slot, but in case I'll go with something that benefits from SATA 3 and the optical bay turns out to be SATA 2, I could swap the SDD and HD. But I guess then I'd lose the sudden motion sensor for the HD.

I would personally buy an SSD with a SandForce controller. I'm just waiting for the new OWC mercury to come out before I buy one.

Many people choose SandForce because limits the degradation of SSDs, thus increasing their lifespan.

510 is still based on older 34nm technology and is enterprise grade. The G3 is consumer grade and therefore cheaper and is actually based on 25 nm technology.
