Currently I need a tablet. I left the "iPad" a year ago when I bought a new iPhone and bunch of other Android phablets. but now am sort of miss the larger screen for reading and watching YouTube. I dont want to spend a lot of money on the iPad Pro 9.7 or even the Mini 4. I just want something to do flipboarding and video watching tasks. Is the Mini 2 which currently 269$ worth it? or it is too old (2013 device)? appreciate your opinions folks :)

Too old and too expensive for what it is! If were you, I would save some money and get the 9.7 Pro which will be around for 3 years without issues. If you dont have the money and cant wait, I would get a cheap Nexus 9 on eBay

My Nexus 9 was crap in all aspects; I would save up and get the Mini 4 or 9.7 Pro.

I gave him a cheap option for watching videos. iPad Mini 2 is just too expensive for what it offers, so it is better to drop 100 dollars in a nexus 9. But I highly recommend an iPad Pro, which is an incredible device!

If you live in the US, wait for the next Best Buy sale on the iPad mini 4 and get one for $299. It's a massive update in performance over the iPad mini 2.

I would avoid the Mini 2 if I were you as the internals are 3 years old now. Have you thought about a refurbished Mini 4 or Air 2 (if you would rather have a bigger screen) from Apple? They aren't much more than a Mini 2 at the moment.

It is possible there will be an iPad event in October or November to bring new models for the holiday season, so if you can hold out, prices on existing models will fall.

Even if there is no event, then there will still be holiday sales a couple of months from now.

If you cannot hold out, then I agree with the others, look for good deals on a Mini 4. Refurbs, Craigslist, sales, etc. For example just yesterday Best Buy was selling iPad Mini 4 refurbs for $210:

Bought a used iPad mini 2 for $200 CAD ($150 USD) and had it replaced at Apple Store under warranty for an audio issue). For $150 I'm very happy with it. $269 is a bit much for a 3 year old iPad IMO

I disagree. It would still be nice to think there might be an iPad Mini 5 this year, so I'd hold on for another couple of weeks if I were you, but if there isn't a new model then the real world use difference between a $399 32Gb iPad Mini 4 and a $229 32Gb iPad Mini 2 from Apple's refurbished store is imperceptible and definitely not worth $170 - check this side-by-side speed comparison:

Buy it used on craigslist or something like that. Too old at this point to be buying out of a store. It will run iOS 10, but this is probably the last OS upgrade it will get.

My mini2 32gb is over a year old and doing just fine with iOS10. I use it mainly for FB, YT, and iBooks. But I'm guessing that iOS11 next year might not work on it anymore. So as others have said, if you really want one don't spend more than US$199.
