An added bonus with the cellular models is the GPS chip that will work whether or not you are paying for data. If that's of interest to you it could make a big difference in your "worth it" calculation.

Of course, if you're not paying for data you don't get real-time map data, but there are all sorts of off-line map data apps.

Defo a plus for the cellular versions. I can run co-pilot on my iPads with data off and get a proper gps signal for sat nav.

I tether my iPad to my iPhone 5s, which I carry with me anyhow. I invested part of the money I saved, by not buying a cellular iPad and not having a second dataplan, in a better dataplan for my iPhone. To me this seemed an optimal use of my money. And tethering is easy and fast.

I remember during Christmas time that T-Mobile was selling the Nano SIM cards for $0 with free shipping, up to 2 per customer. Setup was easy on my Verizon iPad Air. Even if the Sim is no longer free, it is still a great way to get emergency data for those who have feature phones or plans that don't allow tethering.

Before TMO, it was a tough choice, now it's a no brainer. Spread over 2 years it's like $5 a month.

I'm on solid wifi 29 days a month, and can bring it with me without even thinking about hooking up at this cafe or that bank. Why limit yourself?

I'm so disappointed in the nice man at the T-Mobile store who lied to my face. Thanks for the clarification.

Same here. I called my local t-Mo store. The sales lady told me that I had to come into the store to create an account and had to buy my iPad there to get the free offering. She was adamant, arrogant and just plain rude.
So I hung up, and went online and got my free account.

It's a absolute no-brained. If money isn't an issue and you have the money to do it, it's defiantly a useful thing to have. Take it from someone who has the cellular model. :apple:
