I returned the XS for the XR. I can make a case that, for certain things, the XR LCD display is better. For movies, you will get better blacks with the OLED. Is what it is.
In everyday use, the difference is VERY small. You have to look to say, oh.. there it is.. the date looks a little more crisp on that icon on the XS/11P.
In my case, the color shift of the OLED was annoying for editing photos. I would edit the image with the phone lying flat and get everthing JUST how I wanted it.. then I would look at the image holding the phone in my hand at the ‘optimal’ viewing angle and think WTH happened to my edits. Yes, TT turned off. I could shift the phone and change the look and warmth of my image. This is WAY less of an issue with the LCD display.
An issue that irks me with the XR is the ‘stock’ text is smaller on the XR but I can adjust that now easily in iOS 13 (text size edit in Safari, not the Display text size).
IMO, the LCD display is 95% of the OLED in daily use and better for editing photos. It’s not as dark for videos.
