I noticed in some of the macbook reviews that despite Apple saying 1000 nits that 1000 is only for hdr content not normal useage. When I apply full brightness to my iPhone 13 pro with iPhone X, it looks the same despite the claim of x2 nits . So is it also locked out on iPhones unless you view hdr content ?

From trial and error, I noticed that auto brightness caps the nits based on ambient light, so if you are in a dim environment the cap will be the same for both phones and they are the same brightness if the slider is at 100%. In direct sunlight, the 13 Pro will likely be brighter than the X because it has a higher max brightness.

If you want to compare regardless of ambient light, turn off auto brightness in accessibility, then lock and unlock both phones.
