Just the other day I upgraded from a 3GS to a 4S.

My reason for skipping the iPhone 4 was that I felt it's lifespan was just about over. Just like the 3GS, the iPhone 4 didn't get all the features of iOS 6 like 3D maps and panorama photos, and it lacks things like Siri and 1080p video recording. The iPhone 4S on the other hand has all the features of iOS 6 that the iPhone 5 has so they are pretty much the same phone with just a few hardware and design changes. Also, I took into account how many future versions of iOS will be supported on the device; the iPhone 4 might not get iOS 7 whereas the iPhone 4S will probably survive till at least iOS 8.

Never understood why anyone who's paying $100+ per month for service doesn't just buy the latest iPhone at $200 when their upgrade is available. It's simple math even if you don't want the latest iPhone.

Buy it for $200. Sell it for $550, then buy a used for iPhone 4 for $200 and you come out on top $300. Upgrades used on older iPhone models are a total waste.

If you want it to have a useful life of 2+ years, I'd really go 4s. iPhone 4 can still do everything you listed, but how many features, if any, will it get in iOS 7 this year? iOS 8 in 2014? it will be left pretty far behind.

Right on point but OP went with the already dead iPhone 4. Maybe he/she doesn't care about speed, features, and updates.

Curious, when someone is willing to pay for a 2-generation old iPhone... why haven't any of you suggested say, a last year, but still powerful Android? Droids don't have high re-sell value am going to guess?

Like, man don't buy a 2008 Macbook if you are on severe budget, go for a New-ish Wintel that may serve ur purpose better?

I got my iPhone 4 yesterday. Actually I traded it for Galaxy Nexus.
Yes, it is twice times weaker than GNex in almost all aspects, but in user expierence - I think that IPhone 4 is worth to buy even in 2013.
P.S. I bought it, here, in Latvia for 155LVL which is about ~320$

If it's worth it depends on what you paid for it. It's definitely not worth it on a tw year contract. If you paid $100 for it yes, anything more than $150, NO.

iPhone 4 is the best Phone i ever owned despite all the issues surrounding its release and so on...

the only reason i upgraded to iPhone is because i had a broken home button on my iPhone 4 and just needed to upgrade but when i received my iPhone 5 i thought to myself what's this cheap looking light ****...

iPhone 5 is probably the biggest upgrade of all iPhone upgrades but will forever be a big embarrassment in terms of the design build...i can't believe they shipped scratched products to customers....this wouldn't happen if Steven was alive.;)
