is the iPhone good with internet and data, even with only 2 bars?

The inside of my apartment really doesn't get good cellphone reception with my current Tmobile phone.

I get decent service with one - as long as I have some, it seems happy. My house is like a ATT dead zone.

More importantly- ATT might have different service (as in stronger/weaker (NONE)) than the TMobile phone.
