Is the iPhone X worth the upgrade from a 6s? Can anyone who’s already got theirs shed some light?

Performance wise, my 6 was long in tooth,

But wife’s SE with your same soc runs great... so it depends... all on how much you put on FaceID

Edit the question in the poll. It currently says "Is the iPhone 6s worth the upgrade from a 6s?" Change the first "6s" to "X"
I would hold on to the 6s and upgrade next year.

It depends if you’re going to like the navigation of the X then yes. For me I didn’t like the navigation so I returned the X and got an 8. You can test drive the X for 14 days.

I would say yes just based on the performance upgrade (same as my 8+). Plus a new battery is always nice and in your case you will get better battery life.

2436x1125 @ 458 PPI vs. 1334x750 @ 326 PPI
Wireless charging vs. n/a
FaceID vs. Touch ID
2716 mAh vs. 1715 mAh battery
7MP / 1080p vs. 5MP front facing camera
Dual 12MP cameras, Wide-angle f1.8 and a telephoto f2.4, both with OIS, quad LED flash vs. single 12MP camera
OIS video vs. n/A
A11 (better power efficiency, ML engine) vs. A9 SOC
IP67 water resistance vs. n/a
BT 5.0 vs. 4.2
HEVC/HEIF (new video/photo formats) vs. n/a
5.65" x 2.79" vs. 5.44" x 2.64"

That's _all_ objective, there are more. Now weather you value those technical specifications differences is up to you :) I think it's a MASSIVE upgrade over a 6S and in a physical package that's not much larger.

What about the camera?

What about the camera?

You have the dual camera capabilities with the iPhone X and the following features. It's a significant upgrade over the 6S.

  • 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras
  • Wide-angle: ƒ/1.8 aperture
  • Telephoto: ƒ/2.4 aperture
  • Optical zoom; digital zoom up to 10x
  • Portrait mode
  • Portrait Lighting (beta)
  • Dual optical image stabilization
  • Six‑element lens
  • Quad-LED True Tone flash with Slow Sync

I went from a 6s to an X and love it. I have learned your iPhone resale or trade in value drops of quick after 2 years old. Got $300 bucks off on trade in.

I still have a 6s for Work and going back to it reminds me of going from the 6s back to the 4s in the day.

If you also own an iPad mini or iPad, do you find you’re using it less since upgrading to iPhone X?

In my opinion it's worth it. I came from a 6s plus and I love it--the UI with the home button now seems old fashioned. I have an iPad and still use it just as much.

That is really interesting to hear. After using the X for just a few days, I wouldn't want to back to a home button. The gestures are just much more fluid IMO.

The only gesture that I think is odd is control center in the top right since I use the phone with my left hand.

Yes the IPX is a great upgrade, but the 6S is still a great and very capable phone. It can easily be used for another year before upgrading. So the answer is only one you can give. However, if the specs of 6S isn’t weighing you down in any of the main areas - speed, camera, waterresistance and storage then I would consider waiting until september for the next update on the IPX and ios 12.

Edit: forgot to say. For me the biggest reason to upgrade is the oled display. However, the 6S display is not bad, and as long as you haven’t tried the pure blacks of a oled display you’ll properly not miss it. If you read a lot of books/text on your phone, then update, otherwise my advice from above still stands.

If you are low on money and don't want to waste 1k+ usd...Nope

If you have some money and 6s has become too boring for you then ...take the X :D

I did this upgrade and I would say to wait another year, the camera isn’t much of an upgrade at all.

I used to have a 6s, before getting the X. Really enjoyed that phone, up until the day I got the X. The main reason I wanted an upgrade was a higher resolution, larger display, in a phone that wasn’t as big as the plus models. A second reason was to get something that didn’t feel as slippery as the bare metal on the 6s (I don’t like using cases). Plain and simple as that. I have found I’ve used my iPad a bit less since upgrading to the X, but that happens to me when I get a new device, and it will soon return to normal. Also, iOS 11 on my Air 2 noticeably slowed it down so it’s not as enjoyable to use.

I'm one who has both a 6S and a 6S+. I decided that the X wasn't worth the price and bought a 256GB 7+ and with the savings, bought a pair if AirPods. For the time being, I'm still using my 6S+ with my Apple watches but that's because my 7+ came with 10.2.1 and I'm not sure if I want to update it to 11.

I got a new battery put in my 6S+ last week, the same day that I ordered the 7+. Had I thought things through after getting the battery replaced on the 6S+, I may have not ordered the 7+ because I am still 100% happy using my 6S+ with the new battery.

Not sure what I'll do next year but for now, I'm good.

I would have kept my 7 non Plus if my wife didn’t want a smaller phone than her 6S Plus. So I got a 8 non Plus gave her my 7 and took the 8.

Now I’m going to take back the 7 and give her the 8 cause I prefer the 6/7 without the glass back. I don’t need wireless charging. I use a 29W brick and it charges 47% in 30 minutes. I like the stealthy more industrial look of the aluminum back of the 6/7.

I also prefer the footprint of the 6/7 chassis. The bezels help to make 1 handed use more enjoyable than the X.
