Completely the opposite. Here in Canada, almost every single person owned a blackberry about a year ago. And when I say almost every single person, I mean about 90% of them. Now, I see the majority switching to the iPhone. The iPhone is going no where but up.

I ditched Blackberry last year for the iPhone 4. I'll stick with iOS for a while. Very happy.

The iPhone isn't going anywhere, let's not be Chicken Little, yeh?
Yes, the OP sees things in his circle of the world and questions whether its a wider pattern.

Maybe why the OP put this out there on a forum - to get a better feel for the situation.

Vin is right though, the iPhone is not going anywhere...

iPhone 4 sold like 1.7M in one weekend. iPad 2 sold over 2.5M.

Why would you feel alone? Why would you care if it is popular or not? Why are your own opinions relying on what the majority thinks?

Every great thing dies or run its course. After 7-8 iPhones, it will decline at some point. But if you enjoy iOS so much and use these iDevices as a transitional "vehicle" in the Apple world, why does it bother you if it isn't #1 anymore? Just enjoy what you have. No need to be "emo" over phone "wars."

If you feel alone, then I wonder what webOS fans should feel? But no. They don't care and still enjoy the OS anyway just like Mac lovers.

If something is on a RAPID decline, some other thing should have replaced it. Is there ANYthing that has replaced the iPhone and the iOS?

To my knowledge, NO.

I suggestion is to write a bucket list for your life. Doesn't matter if you are 15 or 50. Plan your life and set goals.

I guarantee trying to have the most popular phone in the world won't be high on that list. We pay more for our car and its insurance than owning a silly, little phone that can easily break, get stolen, washed away in a tsunami, or replaced every two years. When we look back at our lives 20-50 years, worrying about iOS being popular won't be one of our personal "greatest hits."

Perspective.

I am OCD about my gadgets, but there is more to life than all this. Not going to be buried or cremated with it.

I find irony that Steve Jobs is Buddhist, but he leads a company that know how to make people obsessed with things that is built to be obsolete in the long run.

K Dr. Phil, if you had read what i wrote you would see that i don't care about the actual popularity of the device, i care about iOS being first in the eyes of the developers. And starting this thread definitely made me feel better about it after hearing from a developer himself.

Your local observations are not indicative of the overall market. Comments like this are absurd.

We also have no idea your income, demographic or age.

The iphone has sold more phones every quarter over the past few quarters and this quarter will sell even more.

The smartphone market is still growing and the iphone is growing faster than the overall smartphone market.

If anything the iPhone is growing in popularity. I think what you are trying to say is that there are other stand out phones that people may choose over the iphone. In 2007 not the case. In 2011 Def true. Google copied Apple so they have some decent phones now. Also Android markets itself to what looks like High School boys based on their commercials. If you are in this demographic, maybe Android is the preferred choice. Marketing is a powerful thing.

I read somewhere that males choose Android more often and females choose iPhone more often.

Everyone I know "wants" and iPhone.

The reason they haven't bought is due to price; being able to get Blackberry's or Android phones free or at low cost with a signed contract to a Cellular Company.

Even blackberry owners who are married to their keyboard still "want" and iPhone for all the other things it does.

There is no question in the social circles I'm in everyone owns and iPhone, those who don't want one. I don't see that changing anytime soon considering the crap that's on the market.

I'd like to point out that the other app markets are NOT catching up. On my Android device (that I HATE WITH A PASSION), I have a grand total of...three games. That would be angry birds, slice it and tap tap revenge. Which are just rather poor remakes of popular iPhone games. The rest of the games on the Android app store have poor graphics, and are completely uninteresting. The Android app store for games is a COMPLETE JOKE. This is from first hand experience.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm presently away at a business meeting and iPhones are all over the place. Obviously I don't have numbers/proof, it LOOKS like 80% of the smartphones are iPhones.

sticking to iOS and android gets boring. So far in my smart phone world ive went from. Sony ericsson's smartphones to Googles G1, to a blackberry back to the nexus one, seeking iphone now if the new one comes out in summer, then maybe back to android and or windows 7 mobile.

On a side note i find it funny how you guys promote a certain brand as if you are being paid.

If someone likes something and get's used to it, a lot of times they don't want to change it.

Comparing Android to iPhone is irrelevant. There are how many phones running Andriod vs. how many running iOS? I think it's more impressive that Apple stills hold the percentage they do with only having 4 phone running iOS since 2007, while Android has a ton.

You haven't tried an iPhone yet, maybe that's why you keep getting bored with your smart phone?

I admit that is impressive for 1 phone, but there is always the luxury of having more then 1 design. That is what i really get bored of is the design, before smart phones were even popular i would switch cell phones like i would underwear. I still have that habit but it has settled down a bit. Keeping a phone for a year is very impressive for me.

But being able to jump from different devices with different oses and coming back to them later is great, for one reason, you get to come back top hopefully a butt load of improvements. i do have an ipad, and have played with an iphone plenty.

I have also had plenty of time on my ipad to snoop around the market, which all in all, the popular apps are on both android and iphone, aside from imovie and garageband.

As far as games ios has people beat. I dont really take sides, i want both android, iphone, and WM7 to fight for me, and me not fight for them. So i keep an open mind at all times. Its just some of the comments i read on here by some people make me sick.
