It's awesome to see OWC offering SSD for MBA, do they have exclusive distribution on this format? I remember seeing another company offering this only to be pulled by Apple. I much rather see at least 2 - 3 more companies offering this format. While it's great to have an option but I do feel the price should see some competition and let us the consumer decide.

I found a local computer shop that specializes in Apple with good word of mouth. They were very nice and said to buy the OWC SSD and they would transfer all my info from my current 64G ssd to what ever size I bought and install for $270.00 (3 hours at 90) - opin? And I should say I'm not a penny pincher and don't care if this is $ 50 high or so. as it is a good shop.

It's rather a simple upgrade. You don't want to do this by yourself?

It's really not that hard to install it yourself. There's really nothing to mess up (except something avoidable like stripping screws or something). I'd save the money and install it myself if I were you. Just food for thought.

Having some issues with 11 inch MBA - origin maybe be SSD?

I purchased the 240 GB 'blade' SSD from OWC at the beginning of 2011 and replaced the apple SSD with it. All worked fine for over a month. Since then, I've had 5 occurrences of the same problem. From nowhere, as I'm working away, the screen fades to light blue, stays that way for 2-3 seconds and then the login screen appears.

This happens rarely enough for me to be taken by surprise each time it occurs. All work I have running the all the apps is lost.

I don't know the reason but one hypothesis I am following is that the 240 GB blade pushes the temperature of the CPU up just a little too much. I've installed istats nano and ThermoInDock to try to keep an eye on the temp. Would appreciate any insights you may have that can help me to track this issue down. In fairness to OWC, this may have nothing to do with their product and may be a fault that was in my MBA but did not appear prior to the installation of the OWC SSD.

Peskie.

I guess the reason people are looking at this is for more storage? Can't think of another reason to bother, given the MBAs already come with might fine SSDs in them?

Yes, of course the main reason is more storage. The *perk* is that they're faster as well. :)

Given the expense and rumor of the MBA refresh at WWDC, I held off purchasing an OWC SSD for my 11" MBA. I was hoping Apple would offer a 240gb option in the next release.

But as no new MBA was announced (let alone with bigger SSD options) and my SSD space is dwindling I ordered a 240gb model. I've always been very pleased with OWC products and customer service and don't imagine it will be any different here. Glad OWC offers me this option when Apple doesn't.

Yeah it's really, really nice that the option is there, and it's a big bonus that's it's a faster drive. I'm glad to see this thread isn't showing a plague of problems. May order one soon.

Super Talent 64 gb ssd in original MBA Air- Fail

I have replaced the original MB air HD with the FZM64GW18P, it does not show up on the computer, not in sys profiler or disk utility.
The original HD has failed twice and had to be reformatted. I also already tried another brand ssd which worked for short periods then failed. Sent it back for refund.
I have read about various problems with the original Air and SSDs anyone use this one successfully?
The HD does work fine in an usb enclosure.

Spent my first full day with a 240 GB. I am impressed--very nice. Allowed me to install a 40 GB partition for a Windows 7 bootcamp which is also extremely fast.

Worth the $549? Not sure. I am also not really sure I need to upgrade to the newest Air now, so in the end I may have saved some $$$...

Dependability is the problem, not price.

I had one of these in my Macbook Air for less than a year. 2 complete failures later I was done with this product, and after OWC's customer service response I am done with the company. More info here: http://goo.gl/V7DD5
