It would become USB 2 speeds for that, but I didn't realise people still used USB hard drives?!

I haven't even seen one in the wild for at least a couple of years, and I work with techies/developers daily.
So... What do people use as an external storage device nowadays in order to store all the terabytes of content? Wireless Hard Drives? eSata drives? Pen drives?

Some of us don't want to rely completely on the cloud. First, you don't have fast unlimited internet everywhere, only in urban locations, and second I don't want other companies to have my sensitive data. That doesn't mean I don't use Drive, Dropbox or iCloud, but just not massively for everything.

Thank you for sharing with us your experience with the 27UD88.

Indeed, wireless storage (cloud or local) is becoming more mainstream. But more prominently, Thunderbolt drives.

USB-A/B for data transfer is extremely dated. Specifically in the context of this forum - Macs.

@andy9l Oh, you're right, I forgot the TB drives.

Well, I did a little investment in USB 3 hard drives a few years ago, and so far, so good. But I have the chance of plugging this drives to my router and make them wireless... Connected to my Wi-Fi network.

End of the off topic. We can now get back to the screens discussion.

Alright decided to go with the 27UD88 since B&H had it for $600.

EDIT: Just wanted to post a quick update for those who are also thinking about purchasing this monitor. So far I really like it, and I'm glad that I went with the USB-C version. The single cable thing is very convenient. Also, I know this monitor it's only 4K but text is razor sharp. I'm using a scaled resolution of 1920 x 1080 and could probably go up to a 2560 x 1440 but then things begin to get a little too small.

I'm on the same boat debating between the UD69 and UD88. I'm still using one USB 3 external drive for editing photos and videos so the hub on the UD88 doesn't see so appealing. Right now the UD69 is $429 at Best Buy and on Amazon the UD88 is $597.

Also I guess I would have to get a USB-C to Display port adapter if I go with the UD69. I have the Apple USB-C AV Dongle and I don't think the HDMI supports (1.4 instead of 2.0) support 4k @ 60hz...if anyone can confirm.

Decisions, decisions. Seems like both panels look excellent though. I will also be using them for console gaming with my Xbox and future PS4 Pro...

That being said does anyone have recommendations on a USB-C to Display Port cable?

Right now I'd take the UD88. It has the USB-C conector and you can have a one cable solution for charging your macbook pro.

I'm thinking about the 32UD99, which has HDR and would be awesome for my PS4 Pro, but it doubles the price, more than 1.000€ and I think it's just not worth it.

Yes...upon my OCD researching I stumbled upon the 32UD99 also and thought it would be great. Especially since I plan to do 4k console gaming. At $999 it's pricey though. Non USB-C 27" @ $429, USB-C 27" @ $597 and USB-C HDR 32" @ $999...prices give you something to think about.

Anybody seen the new 27UK850 yet ?

Yeah i picked one up last week. Absolutely fantastic.

Picture quality is great.

Pretty similar to the 27UD88 but with the added bonus of HDR and built in speakers.

Built in monitor speakers are never gonna blow you away, but i only need them for casual use (listening to music etc.) and i was pleasantly surprised at how good they were.

Build quality seems pretty good too.

I'll echo what a lot of others here have said...the single cable connection for charging, video, audio and USB type A was what sold it for me.

If you don't mind, I have a request.

I am fairly new to monitor segment and looking to pick one myself. I'm doing some research from time to time. The UD88 seemed to have . a pretty decent track record in terms of Quality control, as far as I could find. Can you please check a couple of things in your new monitor and report it back to this forum? Things like.. IPS glow, backlight bleed, and stuck/dead pixel & any burn in etc.

Thank you.

I've also picked up this monitor and so far it's great. The built-in speakers are quite nice (you can actually use them productively, compared to say some 2watt speakers some other monitors have included e.g. Acer X34P) and I no longer needed to have separate speakers in my set up (decluttering my desk). Sure the speakers won't give you the same quality as some £100+ speakers (though note, they beat some of the cheap stand alone speakers that I've tried at least), but for that I use my wireless headphones anyway.

It is a very good looking monitor too - i got the white backed one. It's not quite as thin-bezzeled as the Dell's, but otherwise it's great. No dead pixels, some IPS glow (expected), no noticable bleed and no burn in noticed (not expecting it from this panel - I know some older panel tech suffered from image retention).

Quick question for other users of this, is there a way to control the volume via the Mac's keyboard if you're connected over USB-C with speakers plugged in to the back of the monitor?
