Is the Macbook Pro 14" and 16" made out of softer aluminium, or am I just getting clumsier?

I've had various Macbook Pro's throughout the last decade - 2011 13", 2017" 13" Space Grey, 2019" 16" Silver and now, Space Grey 16" M1. Usually I'm really careful with my belongings and none of the previous laptops had any sort of scuffs or damage to them throughout their use, however, the last one, M1 16" in Space Grey, had visible scuffs on the top case edge within 3 months of use, which obviously sucks. I really have been careful with these machines, so I'm wondering, does anyone else have similar experience, or have I become more clumsy with age?
