The reply stating that any MBA would be better than my current setup got me thinking that I could get a 13-inch MBA to do what I'm currently doing. What would be the MBA limitations compared to what I currently use ?

To do that, I'd just add a 27-inch ATD to do photo editing. However, I'd have to switch cable anytime I'd like to display videos on my HDTV.

Are they Thunderbolt display ? I really would like my display to act as a dock since I have several external harddrives. The ATD looks great but it's probably too big of an investment for me :(

I don't think they are sorry for the disappointing news however they are excellent for photography which is why i focused on that mainly

OK, then the problem will be that if a laptop becomes my main computer, I'll need a docking station.

However, if I keep my main computer (say an iMac), does it make any sense to get a laptop as well ? It will probably become very annoying to have two personal computers, with a lot of time spent on copying files from one to the other ?

As off right now, I think the two main options for my situation are :

1. Get an iPad for simple stuffs on the go (internet, email, contacts, tasks, calendar, watching sports in the subway, ...), and keep my current iMac for the time being (I will upgrade my iMac later)

=> that solution would mean that I use my blackberry for phone calls / text messages, and my old ipod nano to listen to music and podcasts when I walk.

On my everyday commute, I'd carry 3 devices (blackberry, ipod nano and ipad).

2. Sell the current iMac, buy a 13-inch MBA with an Apple Thunderbolt display, and an ipod touch for everyday use.

=> I'd have my files on one computer that I could take everywhere with me, a big screen to do photo editing and work at home, and a small device to listen to music and watch videos in the subway.

That solution however is much more expensive, which makes me wonder if that is not too much for my needs.

Umm i don't think for the first option you would have to carry 3 devices, if you get a 64gb ipad it should be fine to carry most of your music (if its lossless, than you might have to downgrade to aac) and podcasts on it, plus everything else. And than you would only have to carry 2 devices which is still ok.

Option 2 sounds great and i like the best however if i were you i would check out the thunderbolt display before buying as some people have mixed reviews regarding the gamma of the display.

I don't think I could use the ipad to listen to my music on the go (when I walk to or in the subway for example) because the ipad is simply too big for that.

This is the reason why I am also taking the ipod touch into consideration as it's kind of a mini ipad that I can easily carry in my pocket.
