My wife wants a new iPad for Christmas but doesn't want an Air 2, she wants a mini. She hates her iPhone 6 Plus because it always lags due to the lack of RAM.

Will she be happy with a mini 4? She only uses it for web browsing, Facebook, and light gaming from time to time.

Mostly, yes.
Stutters occasionally on a few script-heavy or image-heavy web pages, but outside the Air 2 or Pro, it's the best you'll find.

It's pretty laggy in animations when opening the multitasking switcher, but even A9 device owners complain about that so I would say that's a software issue.

Remember that the A8 is clocked faster on the mini 4 and also has 2GB of RAM compared to 1 on the iPhone 6. For the uses you listed, the mini 4 will perform great. :)

Are you running iOS 9.2? I never had significant lag with my Mini 4, but what app switcher stutters I did have are gone on 9.2. Clearly it's more of a software issue than a hardware one.

I don't know if it's specific to some games but if I'm playing Cooking Fever and get a text on my iPad it will lag/stutter a few seconds. Slightly annoying when playing a time management game. :p

No, actually I was told in another thread that i should update. I'm still on 9.1, so i'll definitely update!

Are you asking on this forum ? There always be someone seeing lags on an Apple 's product....

Lags are totally unrelated to "lack of ram" on the iPhone 6+. Actually there isn't any "lack of ram" on it. Btw the iPad mini 4 uses the same SoC and 2 Gb of ram, and I can't see any lag on it (nor on my iPhone 6).
Stuttering? Sometimes.... Nothing affecting my daily usage

Not to spit hairs since I agree with you for the most part, but the 6+ has 1GB of RAM and an A8 clocked at 1.4gHz while the Mini 4's chip is 1.5gHz and it has 2GB of RAM.

True.
But I don't think 100 MHz can make any difference if not on a synthetic benchmark, and surely the ram has nothing to do with the lag people are reporting here. On this forum there would be people complaining about lag even on a 3 Ghz iPad.... :D

My Air 2 never needs me to clear out open apps like my 6+. I don't think the extra core is the reason my Air 2 is super smooth unlike our phones.

Its a great screen size update from an 6 plus :) didtn use my 6 plus that much then i had mini 2 xD

Performance. Yes, great but a little lag on heavy websites, when i tried it. but 9.2 should have fixed that hehe :)

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to go ahead and get one for her. Best Buy still has them for $100 off so that is great news.

But isnt 1GB of ram also used for vram? How is this not connected with graphics lag? Especially since it shows much more on the plus then regular 6. Also there is a lack of ram, it refreshed websites and apps much more then the S model with 2GB of ram.

Light gaming for me, and no lag noticed. Very happy for the size and weight, very portable.

There is NO lag on iDevices running any app....
You are confusing lag with some stuttering or frame drops in some animation of the UI.

If you run too many in the background with 1gb, it will most certainly start to lag. I have this problem with my 6+ and not with my Air 2. I have to constantly close background apps on my 6+

How many apps do you keep open in the background? I've never run into the RAM problems that others describe on my iPhone 6.

It depends, but lately if I have spoitfy, facebook, clash of clans and chrome open as the only apps, it'll start to lag. It's very annoying.

Sure, and since I know I have 1 Gb I'm avoiding to run too many apps in background.

I see this on my iPad Pro too. Some games go to a black screen for a second. This has to be a software issue, so here is hoping for a fix soon :)
