Hi, I have been testing the new edge and from my first impressions I can say that this browser is really good but above all I have found out that it is really efficient in terms of power usage and battery.
I have tested both safari and Edge while watching 1080p video on YouTube and from my results measured with Intel Power gadget I can say that the new edge is at least on par with safari in power efficiency if not slightly better, at least while playing YouTube videos.
Also the new PWAs are a really useful addition.

Has anybody else tried this new browser?

I have. Seems to work as well as Chrome insofar as rendering speed and quality. Can't comment on battery life as I'm using a desktop Mac (2014 mini). But battery life seems reasonable on my Windows 10 laptop with the Windows version of Edge Chromium.

Trying to figure out how the 'install as app' for website works on the Mac. I know how it works as Windows and use it frequently. On the Mac, hitting the 'install as app' menu option does something, but I can't figure out what, nor can I find any installed icon anywhere. Any ideas?

Hi, first of all you have to go to a website that supports PWAs like outlook, google maps, etc then you go to the config menu and click on "install as app" then you should see a shorcut in the applications menu. I have tried with outlook.com, flipboard and some others and they work really well.

Yeah, works great on Windows. Even saves a shortcut on the desktop and opens in a menu-less app window. I was hoping for the same behavior on macOS, but as far as I can tell it's no different than a bookmark...

I was talking about Mac OS. I see all apps installed like regular apps in my applications folder in finder.

Just to chime in, installing as app works great for me on macOS 10.15.2 as well. And I also have the impression that Edge is slightly more energy efficient than Safari on my MacBook. Overall, I like the rendering speed (feels faster than Safari), the Enpass extension, the KeePassXC extension, the fact that unlike for Safari and after Apple's latest brainfart shenanigans uBlock Origin is available, and much more. It has as of a few days ago completely replaced Safari as my go-to browser on macOS and now also iOS.
