I was pleasantly surprised that the lowest-ranked Mac Pro is only a bit more expensive than the highest-ranked Macbook Pro. Unfortunately it comes with tiny 256 GB disk drive, which is too little when I also have Windows or other OS installed.

Can I still buy one without vendor customization, and be able to add (or replace) the disk later? The device looks quite compact from what I've seen on the net...

It's not a disk, it's a Flash drive which is faster and without any moving parts. I am fairly certain it is user upgradable as well, along with the CPU, and (of course) RAM. The GPU is not so easily replaced, from what I have heard.
