Hey. I’m just wondering if anyone who has the 14 inch new MacBook Pro can give honest reviews of the XDR display? I’ve seen some reports of the iPad Pro 12.9 actually being a better screen than the new MacBooks. Is the MacBook Pro display as bright and detailed as you hoped, and is the iPad Pro 12.9 screen really better? Thanks

Go to an Apple Store that has both on display and compare. That's better than anyone else's opinion.

The M1 12.9 iPad has a better display because it also has touch capabilities.

This is local troll. I think he is jealous about our new macbook pro. Don' t feed him, just ignore him.
His mom told him she won't buy him the new MBP because he hasn't been cleaning the basement and the smell of musty human fluids are creeping their way upstairs. Now he must take revenge on the forums. Its always society's fault how one feels.

I happen to have both 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 and this new 14". I will say the ghosting you see people complain about is here in the XDR display of the new mbp - it is also present in the scrolling of the ipp 12.9 as well as the non miniLED model of the 11 IPP which I also have. but it's nothing as bad as they say this is purely subjective. In the IPP there are no windows to drag around so you don't notice 99% of the time except when you go looking for it during a scrolling of a webpage, etc. On the XDR of the MBP, you can move a window around and depending on wallpaper background you can see the pixels ghost. It reminds me of my old gateway VA display. But it's not even close to being THAT bad.

Overall I think the IPP 12.9 display is awesome but the XDR on the mbp is even better because when I play HDR content only the window portion is super bright - on the iPad everything just looks bright. You're not going to get gimped here on the display of the new mbp. well maybe the ghosting issue is annoying for some overall it is a fantastic display.

The MacBook Pro screen has less blooming in the dark. IMO it’s better than the screen of the iPad Pro 12.9.
this is what I also observed as well. Perhaps because of the viewing distances between the two - the IPP being so much closer than the mbp.

If this is true I’m dumping my iPad Pro for this. I hardly use it as a tablet (use my phone for most of my touchscreen use) and have it sitting on the Magic Keyboard 99% of the time. Ordered myself a 14” MBP because I miss the power and capabilities.

Having both devices I would say that picture quality is the same on both however the MacBook Pro handles blooming a lot better in dark rooms in the iPad.
Thanks for your reply. Did you notice much of a brightness difference between the IPP and MacBook 14?

Thanks, I feel much better about getting the 14 inch now. Glad you like the display. I was just worried when it looked like the MacBooks didn’t have as good of a screen as the IPP XDR but I’m happy they both look as good.

Yes, it's a very good display. As a movie viewing device, I tend to think that the IPP is more engaging since I hold it much closer to my face when lounging on couch or in bed compared to a laptop, but as a whole they're pretty much equivalent.

Comparing the 12.9" iPad Pro and the new 16" MacBook Pro, the MacBook Pro is a bit better. Much less blooming, and the colors pop a bit more. That being said they are both amazing screens. When I first used the iPad I was really impressed by the screen. When I first used the MacBook Pro I was completely blown away. As a test I played a 4K HDR demo and the peak brightness, colors, and the realism is one of the best I have seen on any screen (not counting extremely high end TVs).

Careful, there are plenty of posts that report blooming is the same. Don’t just assume the MB blooming is better. Check it out for yourself in the same conditions.

There is always going to be blooming, for me I was surprised at the difference between iPad Pro and the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro is less pronounced, but it's all about personal tolerance for these things.

For example, a line of text in the iPad Pro in pitch dark will produce a rectangle of blooming area around the text, the area seems to be smaller on the MacBook Pro.
