I’ve seen over the past few years that Space Grey was a lot of people choice of colour for the MBP but I’ve noticed since the redesigned 14 and 16” has been released more people have been reverting back to the Silver again. Why do you think this is?

Not sure why Space Gray is chosen by people, for me it is because it tones the look of the MacBook down and appears to give it a smaller footprint, the other reason is that it looks more high-end/special.

- The overall design is more classic and silver is a better fit for the classic look
- Silver contrasts better with the keyboard (all black)
- Lack of Apple/MacBook defining features (like the Touch Bar and logo) means silver is really the only visual aspect that sets the laptop apart when open

However, on the 16" model there is too much "bright" silver when the laptop is open, resulting in reflection/glare, plus given the larger size the silver makes the laptop look even larger. Hence on the 16", the Space Grey can be a better fit.

I have no idea why. Maybe people got bored of the darker color. I used to buy Space Grey but this time I chose the silver MacBook Pro. My reason was that I wanted a change and that I also believe that the silver color looks more premium somehow.

Looks like space gray is still the favorite, here at least. Maybe because it has more problems that attract people to the site? Or maybe because the owners have more problems.

Just kidding!

if my wife didn't have silver from last gen id get silver, but we like em to not get mistaken since they spend so much time on the couch. I think silver looks better...but space grey is no slouch

I went for silver after 4 years with a Space Grey 2017 13”. I find silver to be more of a classic look and the space grey just seemed dull by the end of it. I’ve also switched from a Graphite Pro phone to Silver too… wasnt planned but worked out well!

I prefer the look of silver this time around, but I stick w/ space grey due to working better in well lit areas, silver just reflects more light.
Have you known the Space Grey to discolour at all in your time using it?

Well my eyes are getting old and I like how bright the silver MBP is :) plus it reminds me of my old MBP with superdrive

I think the space grey looks better when it comes to dints, scratches in overall looks. I had a silver MacBook Pro in the past and the silver iPad, those chip surface it's like tiny black dots all over. The grey would show less prominent.

I haven't looked super close to current 2021 MBPs, but the classic Silver finish MBP laptops required one to really look closely for any small dings and scratches because it was aluminum underneath. Where as space grey finish is anodized aluminum. So even though space grey is very durable its still going to show imperfections where the process missed coating around tight spacing or along the edges on occasion.

My last three MacBooks have been silver: Power PC g5, 1st gen MBP, late 2013 MBP. I went to the Space gray for this one.

I tend to switch between colours with each new device because I get bored and want a proper change, so if people are anything like me, everyone bought space grey a few years ago when it was first available after a few years of silver being the only option, and now are going back to the lighter colour with the M1 devices.

I ended up with a Space Grey machine because they didn't have any silver left. I think the silver looks great with the contrasting black keyboard "tray" and the large Apple logo on the black.

To be fair, as much as I'm tired of space grey, I do think the new design looks very nice, but in a different way to the silver one, especially with a dark desktop wallpaper like the ones they use on display models.

You can't beat Space Grey. Beautiful thing and just fades away into the background seamlessly, all that's left is that incredible keyboard and insane disaply.

The advantage of switching from Macbook pro 15 "2013 is that Space gray looks like a totally new color to me.
