Prefer a Boost myself.

Anyway, it is usually multi-region for..is it 5 plays? then it locks to the last one you played, if i remember correctly.

If the dvd drive is Region locked VLC can't read the dvd...

Just switch iDVD to 'Ignore' when entering DVDs, to be found under Settings > CDs and DVDs. Then VLC will play all DVDs.


Don't know answer to original Region-Locking question on new Superdrives but I would assume the worst in all things DRM with Apple 🙁
