Hey,

for years now I have the issue that no matter what I do there are neither notification sounds nor vibrations coming from YouTube when for example a video gets published on one of my subscribed channels that have notifications on.

I still do get the notification but they are always delivered silently.

Every possible setting is enabled:
  • Settings - Notifications - YouTube - Allow Notifications is on, Sounds is on
  • YouTube App - Settings - Notifications - Subscriptions is on, Disable Sounds and Vibrations is off
I restarted the phone, reset the phone and set it up from scratch (no backup) and I even created a new Apple ID and Google Account to see, if there is somewhere a borked setting, that causes this.

I read so many threads and posts about this but noone seems to have a fix for it.

Every other App does send me notifications with sound/vibration. Really don't know where to look anymore. Would be nice to know if it's a me issue or a general one and the YouTube App is just broken for years now.

Can someone at least confirm for me that they get Youtube notifications with sound/vibration?

Thanks!

Are you sure YouTube notifications are supposed to have sound/vibration? Every app developer can decide to send the notifications with no sound. Maybe that's what YouTube did?

I don't think I ever had vibration on my YouTube notifications.

That might be. If so, this is a weird decision to make. Why not just let the user decide, if they want it or not.

Just trying to figure out if it is actually on the devs side. Haven't seen a lot of people talking about wether they get sounds or not from Youtube.

YouTube notifications don't play a sound on my iPad despite being enabled.

Try this. Go to your list of subscriptions then tap the bell icon and set to all. See if that makes a difference.

Validation of this would work best on a channel that has a regular upload schedule.

Yeah, I’m aware of this setting. Unfortunately they already are on „All Notifications“, so that doesn’t change anything as well.

But thank you for the advice.

I have a different problem. I want YouTube notifications to "deliver silently" (only in notification center), but the app regards that setting as if I turned notifications off. Some apps from other companies are like this too.

But clearly Google does not make all apps behave this, and they are aware of the "deliver silently" distinction, since their others apps accept the deliver silently setting, such as Gmail and YouTube Music.

So I wonder if they want to force you to have the experience and settings you want, or if they just don't care enough to make everything work properly and consistently.
