Yep, that's where Apple seems to be going. I've got a 2013 MacBook Air with 128 GB SSD which is practically impossible to update.

As for the Kensington, there are a couple of alternatives;
- Hardware: Snake~Chicago
- There's software, too: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39997/plugspy

Well, good luck, it's a beast of a machine.

Thanks for showing me this. Better than nothing. Perhaps i can help you back. I can swear you can upgrade the SSD in that MBA. Check out OWC they sell a lot of apple stuff. Here is the guide on how to remove yours: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Air+13-Inch+Mid+2013+Solid-State+Drive+Replacement/15181

im not trying to be rude but please read all the posts. I did not pay the difference the manager came out and stated that this is the machine that came for me, even that the 9,2 was ordered. i only paid for the apple care.

To be fair on them in your original post it clearly reads as that you had to pay for upgrade. It wasn't until a later post that you clarified that the fee was waived after you questioned it. People are busy, read the original post and then offer their opinion. In an ideal world people will read all posts first but it's unreasonable to always expect everyone to read everything that has been posted. I like to have as many facts as possible but a lot of people just want a short bite sized chunk and will form an opinion based on that.

I see now my wording a little off. I thought i made the message clear when i said they gave it to me. But to clarify no i did not pay the $500 something. I asked them why id pay the difference and they said corporate made the mistake but was it really a mistake they dont know. THey said i can have the machine as i deserved it anyways because i didnt yell at them and because i did so much to help eliminate the possible issues, yet even at the end after new RAM, 2 new motherboards and 10 new OS restores ranging from ML to the latest the issue still persisted.

Granted my wording may have been a little off, i apologize for that. I still answered you and gave you the proper information and stated kindly to read all posts. Think of it as if youre talking with your co-workers in a meeting. you know what the meeting is about yet you drift off and come back halfway into the conversation and offer an opinion that is no longer valid. Its just odd. Granted i do not mean to be rude, im just clearing the air as i love these forum pages as some people are very helpful. Especially all those who helped me keep my old faithful Macbook 3,1 2007 going all these years despite it being outdated.

All in all i believe apple went above and beyond what i was expecting. Heck i did buy the machine used, i had them test it and it passed. In a way they did give me the go ahead to buy it, but at the same time aside from Apple care i did not pay the difference. its things like this that keep a customer so that when i graduate, hopefully by then i can afford the next great apple gadget. Thanks Apple.

Apple can update your model for free, I did so when I did work as a t2 advisor 2012-2013.
No problem at all, you as a customer should not need to pay anything for it.

Cult of Mac did a write up last week on how well selling the non retina 13" 2012 MBP is still selling. It's still for sale on Apples site but the article did say that there is no telling how long Apple will keep selling it. It is still today one of Apples best selling laptops. You just have to go to the buy page on Apples site to buy it.

They cut off sales on their main site a while ago for the cMBP. Maybe you could request a refurbished model instead if you're set on n the Apple Refurbished store, one with 750GB HDD and another with 128GB SSD.
It's still being sold on Apples website, I just looked. I could get it today at any one of five local Apple stores.

I appreciate that. I really do. i could not afford anything better. Although i wanted a machine that could run mavericks and have a DVD drive. Granted the CPU/GPU/SSD is better then the 9,2 im going to miss having that machine.

It wasn't me that you told you read all the posts. I was defending someone else.

I'm not trying to be rude but please read all the posts. Thanks.

For the price you got, you could sell it when you want a 16gb version and make a profit. In the meantime, external dvd drives are ~$20.
