For those that have a 15 Pro / Pro Max, there are so many responses to the overheating issue that surround the processor or titanium frame. Another big change this year was the battery packaging, which suspiciously has the "80% charge limit" option available where older phones do not. My suspicion is the new battery packaging is contributing to heating issues and may be exacerbated by thin or thick cases. I've had a 15 Pro Max, in Apple clear case, since launch and have had zero issues with heat...even on a BMW wireless charger! I also immediately switched to 80% limit as it's so often on a charger anyway. Since the A17 should be more power efficient with the 3nm process, I'm hoping that this issue is actually battery related and worst case could be mitigated with a battery recall. But let's see what the data shows:

While there’s a narrow scope in the poll, it doesn’t account for the various ubiquitous USB-C cables we have laying around which varies by type ie charging/PD, data or both and also the various watts adapters from various brands. This also doesn’t account whether users are actively using the device (what apps, background activities) or leaving the device alone while charging. While there is a potential for hardware issue, we shouldn’t discount software issues such as OS, iCloud sync, cellular/wifi coverage, apps optimized for iPhone 15/iOS 17.
According to the doc on the new limit option, sometimes it will charge to 100%. With fast charging, we can quickly top up +50% in 30 minutes so you don’t necessary need to keep it on the charger until 100%

Yeah, I cut down the poll since there were just so many options... fair point though.
I would assume that the integrated charge controller is going to take bad inputs and normalize them, which might generate some heat but is also what they are made for.
As for usage, fair, but you have to imagine these things got stress tested internally before the design was approved, so unless the offending app isn't letting go of resources or over-utilizing the processor (which is a problem), then "normal" usage shouldn't be impacted... it would be more localized. Too bad there isn't an activity monitor app for iOS!
Agree on the fast charging. Produces more heat but really overrides any "range anxiety" I have with the phone. If I see it's at 20%, 30 minutes on the charger I'm close to 60% charged... which is normally about a day worth of usage.
