Is the "purplera1nyday" the same as the iBSS?

I'm trying to get the files i need before i jailbreak my iphone 3GS. I'm having trouble getting the iBSS, then I looked on here http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/ibss-certificate-jailbreak-iphone-3gs/, and at steps 10 and 11 it says enter the ECID in purplera1n.com and save the iBSS certificate. So does this mean that the purplera1nyday thing I saved is the iBSS, or do i need to get that elsewhere? I got the iBEC via the iBSS and iBEC grabber, but that thing didn't give me the iBSS (as far as i can tell)

EDIT: I've been looking for the files shown below step 3 on this page: http://www.topiphoneresource.info/iphone-3gs-jailbreak-ibec-ibss-files/. I have the iBEC one, but not the iBSS one. I searched my computer (i'm running vista) and there is no iBSS that it can find

They are not precisely the same thing...

From what I understand, the ECID is the key that is used to sign the IPSW firmware image. The iBSS is like a hash of some kind of the IPSW signed with the ECID.

In other words, the iBSS and iBEC files should be derivable from the IPSW you want to sign and the ECID.

To answer a few of your questions. They are both different types of Jailbreak. Both of them will jailbreak your phone on 3.0. You need the iBSS and iBEC file to jailbreak your phone beyond 3.0 if you follow up with the Dev team.

If you go with Purple. Then the ECID/purplera1nyday should work. I would stick with the Dev team.

Now back to your question of finding both the above files. iBSS and iBEC. I had the same issue. When you start the restore in DFU, it creates the iBEC file in the first few seconds. After about 5 seconds, you will see the iBSS file appear for about another 5 seconds. If you don't copy in that short time, the iBSS file WILL get deleted. The first time around I missed the iBSS file and couldn't find a post related to this issue. So I tried again and this time monitored the folder for changes and at every instance of change I copied the folder. I made about 10 copies of folder and in one of them I had both the files.

I would say repeat the process to capture bot the files. Its simple. Put it in Restore/DFU mode and restore. Ensure you back it up first, but I'm sure you know that. Hope this helps. ;)

Ok i got it :). I was sorting the temp folder wrong so I couldn't see the the very first file when it popped up (the one with the ibss and ibec in it). So I ended up with one folder that only has ibec in it and another folder with ibec and ibss in it. Should I keep both folders just in case? I also have the purplera1nyday thing so now... it's time to jailbreak :). thanks for your help
