It is up for debate. If your Best Buy only puts out the SG models how do you know the silver versions won't show the same damage. Answer: They would.
You do you. I'm just sharing facts. If you scratch or chip SG products they will bleed silver. I learned the hard way with my Apple Watch and iPad Pro. If you are concerned about longevity and durability get silver.

What do you think happens when you scratch the silver models? Do you think they just blend in because its more silver underneath there? It doesn't. They show just as easily as the space gray.

You can damage either one noticeably if you bump something metal into it or drop it. But short of that it’s really a tossup IMO. I’ve owned silver models for around 8 years combined and SG for another 5 and any differences in wear are minor at best.

I've had both colors. I think they both hold up well EXCEPT for the area around the ports. This is where the Space Gray finish wears. It also happens on the iPad Pros I've had too.

I went with the silver. Had the silver then cancelled to see how fast the space Grey sells out. Indeed fast, but somehow the silver seems more uplifting to use. Probably less dirt and grit showing.

Had the space Grey iPad Pro with magic keyboard. Kinda bored so decided silver. Matches my silver 13PM too!

I always go 16" SG 14/13" silver. I think they look better in these sizes.
Plus the black keyboard deck does sit nicely with the silver.

In regards to scratches I have had multiple computer in SG + silver and wouldn't put this issue high on my list of reasons to choose. It depends how well you look after them, in the end of the day.

Hey. Hope you’re all well. I’m trying to decide between the Silver or Space Grey MacBook Pro 14” and I’m wondering what your opinions would be? I’ve read that the Silver shows less marks than the Space Grey? Thanks
It’s simple. The Space Grey model ist just a Silver one with anodised aluminium; scratches mostly become visible when the blank aluminium is visible, if it’s always visible, scratches aren’t that obvious. That’s the way it is for aluminium at least, steel iPhones are a different story.

I've had both and honestly it seemed that Space Grey holds up better than silver in terms of the small scratches and nicks. Big and significant scratches will be the same on both. I also had this debate few days ago when placing an order for the new MBP 14" and went with the space grey. Silver just brings back old macbook vibes, space grey looks like the future lol ?

Very hard choice. I think I'd go with SG for 14" because black keyboard looked so unproportionally huge on Silver 14" in comparison with touchpad and whole body when I saw it in store (SG hides this disbalance), but for 16" the choice is much harder. Maybe it's because I didn't see Silver 16" in person. In general I like contract with black keyboard and logo on Silver model but I don't like that Silver looks chunkier for me.
