Missing something ? Where does it say its the same touch ID ?

The 6s says, "Second-generation fingerprint sensor built into the Home button". This reads the same as the iPhone 6, "Fingerprint sensor built into the Home button"

That would mean it is probably the old version.

Dang. If it doesn't have 2gb ram, I'm out. Last gen touch ID + 1gb ram would be too many compromises for me.

I am hesitant, my 5S TouchID was appalling, I never used it. I am aware it was most likely faulty though as my GF never complained with hers.

Very unhappy with the Touch ID on the 6. It's slow, doesn't register that well. I need to re-train my prints every so often. After that it works amazingly fast for... a few days. Then it's back to hit-and-miss and slowness.

I don't mind any of the other SE compromises, but paying 499 knowing a feature you use hundreds of times a day will suck, just like it's been doing the last 1.5 years, isn't really appealing.

I'd be THRILLED to have the old one.
The one on the 6s is way too damned fast.

I can almost never correctly stop at the lock screen when I want to

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus both have the second-generation Touch ID, which is a lot faster (hate it or love it) than the one in the previous phones. It looks like the new iPhone SE will have the A9/M9 chip from the 6s, but I haven't seen anything about the Touch ID.

Is there some technical or other limitation that would prevent Apple from using it?

If so, what? If not, I think it's safe to assume that along with all the other internals, Touch ID will also be updated, and they'll use the latest and fastest version in this new 4 inch phone as well.

why don't you write a letter to Apple and ask them, instead of random people?

Hmmm. Maybe this is all personal preference then.

I've had a 5s, then a 6, then a 6+, then another 6+. Four phones with the first generation sensor and I wouldn't have called any of them slow. Not even a little slow.

Agree.
For your sake, don't get a 2nd gen one, because it's not "slow" - It is "way too fast"

This is reassuring to hear, because I'm getting the SE sometime soon, I hope.

Apparently, TechnoBuffalo mentions that the iPhone SE has second generation Touch ID.

Mistake?

I think he's mistaken. Apple website did not include "second-gen" into the wording so 2nd gen touch ID is probably not included.
