I am about to upgade to the XR. My previous iphone 8 chipped on its own even though I took great care. Are the white iphones not anodized and retain the color of the aluminium?

iPhone's aren't painted at all. The front and back are glass. The aluminum sides are anodized.

I understand that. Is the silver one anodzied as well? You can find multiple reports of paint chipping on the black and rose gold iphones online.

I think the silver aluminum is anodized too, to make it more resistant to corrosion and wear.

I don’t know what people do with their phones. Not a single iPhone had ever chipped for me.

I haven’t had any chipped iPhones either. For the record, the OP of this thread, had chipping near the lightning port on their iPhone 8, (Which they started a separate thread), which was likely caused by the DBrand skin they were using, and some how affected the aluminum. I believe another member had a similar issue caused by the DBrand skin.

Any link to the other dbrand issue thread?

There is no paint to chip. The white phone has clear anodized aluminum. Never heard of an iPhone chipping anyway. Colored anodizing can wear off but if you stick to the silver there is nothing to see.
