I have an older MBP at home, and late last year it got the dreaded black screen of death. It is most certainly the Nvidia issue, as everything seemingly works except the graphics output (verified by trying to get a display with an external monitor).

Of course Apple in the US stopped repairing these guys for free at the end of 2012 I believe, so as soon as it happened I realized I was unlucky with the timing.

All of that said, is there a cheap way to find a refurb logic board? I don't need anybody to install it, I just need to get the part for a reasonable price which I'm guessing is difficult because Apple and their proprietary hardware, AND the laptop is so old.

I just miss having a MacBook and finances right now dictate I should wait on buying a new laptop.

Since it's broken anyway, you might as well try baking it. You're going to have to disassemble it anyway if you're looking to replace it, might as well give it a go!

As far as logicboard, you may get lucky on ebay.

Interesting, never heard of baking it so I googled and yes that looks like something I might as well try as its just a paperweight right now anyway :D

And I'll look around on ebay as well I hadn't thought of that, thanks!
