I thought there was as they used the DVORAK keyboard to hide the Nuance integration

There never has been a DVORAK keyboard on the iPhone. Apple just named the file containing the Nuance integration DVORAK in order to hide it by making people think that it was just a different keyboard layout using the same keys (not really anything for most people to get excited about) instead of a keyboard layout showing hints of new features that they had not announced yet.

Don't try to be special by using dvorak. Everyone uses qwerty, just deal with it.

Entering this thread a bit late. But just want to say that as a Dvorak keyboard user, it would be helpful to have that keyboard available on iOS 5, so that I'm not having to scan where the letters are. Its because of this inconvenience that I would not bother to to buy an iPad.
Some have argued that it doesn't matter because we thumb type on these devices. If that were the case, why do they supply a QWERTY keyboard rather than a straight alphabetical order keyboard?

No better argument for "key" layout with letters optimized for placement. There's no reason for Apple to not add the layout.
