Is there a feature/app that will save my current session?

The mac has a feature that will save your session and reopen all programs when you restart your computer. Is there any way I can save multiple sessions and switch between them? Between different classes as well as for personal use, I always have many different programs and tabs open and would really like to not have to close everything down and reopen all my work every time I switch classes.

Also, consider setting up multiple users - that is, yourself in different roles, presented as different user.
