I, or any other user, can replace the battery. Some choose not to, but that does not mean it is impossible.

I would never bungee jump, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. ;)

User + ability to replace battery = User replaceable battery.

I hope that is easier for you to understand.

It would appear as you are the one whom is not understanding. I never said that the battery is not replaceable. I never said that the user can not replace the battery. I said that Apple deems the battery to be nonuser replaceable so it is factually accurate to say that the battery is nonuser replaceable.

Hey pedants: take your idiotic argument about terminology someplace else, it's not relevant to the OP's question.

OP: I believe that what you see now is about as good as it's going to get. Apple no longer sells the 5C new and there weren't nearly as many units sold as the 4/4S. The high volume, easy user replacement, and high breakage rates of the back plates on those models probably explain why the prices went so low. I doubt the demand for replacement back plates is very high on the 5C, and it probably won't increase.

It's possible you could get a back panel from a non-functional unit being sold for close to nothing, but I doubt even a broken iPhone 5C would be in the $5 range. Looking at the Swappa.com boneyard, even water damaged 5C's go for more than $20.

Have you tried taking it to an Apple Store? I went because mine got a crack between the headphone jack and the screen. It was tiny and not due to damage and they replaced it right away. Back when the 3G and the 3GS were around, Apple stores would replace them no questions asked if they had a crack in the plastic. I mentioned that and they swapped it(the whole phone) pretty quick.

Agree to disagree, moving right along... :)
