I can't stand this stupid trackball that keeps getting dirty. Let's face it, this mouse is not designed for everyday use.

However, I like the feel of it and that it's fairly lightweight. Is there something I can get that's not ugly as hell but will be more reliable than this? Lightweight and horizontal-scrolling without wireless.

I actually like Mighty Mouse

I've had my mighty mouse for about 4-5 years now and I have absolutely no problems with it. I have read about all the problems but I haven't experienced any of that. I know it sucks for gaming so high speed movement wouldn't work well with MM but for everyday use: email, web browse, instant messaging, etc I think it's great.

I disagree. It works flawlessly for like a month after you buy it... maybe two or three months. Then first the downward scrolling stops working and it's all downhill from there! For $50+ you'd think Apple would make something less crappy.

You use it with clean hands otherwise you have to clean it.
However, I use Logitech mouse mostly.

for many people, me included, and maybe most people.

any mice out there is better than the mighty expensice mouse from apple.

The Logitech mice are extremely nice and I would use pretty much any of their mice over the mighty mouse. I especially like my Logitech MX Revolution and VX Revolution, best mice I've ever used.

so how does mine still work after 5 years? Don't generalize your personal experience as everyone's.

better question

The better question is what mouse is not better than the mighty mouse?

Yep... better... much better! :D

My experience with the MM:
The wired MM that came with my iMac would get its scroll ball dirty every couple of weeks it seemed. Horrible experience.
The BT MM I bought separately about 7 months ago has never needed cleaning. Not once.
Why? Who knows. My hands are as clean(or dirty) with it as they were with the wired MM. But not a single scroll ball (or any other) problem with the BT MM.
YMMV,
Morod

the mighty mouse blows. i never understood why apple would include such a terrible mouse with their computers. the only aspect of that mouse that i ever liked was the fact that it was bluetooth. other than that, its useless. its not even ergonomically correct. the design is horrible.

pretty much any microsoft or logitech laser mouse is light years better than the mighty mouse.

i personally love my wired mighty mouse(s).

i got mine second hand about 2 years ago (the owner had it since '06) and it didn't scroll.

i cleaned it out and that restored scrolling in all directions.

haven't had a problem since.

although my girlfriend's old wired mighty mouse i got, can only scroll left and right even after cleaning.

her bluetooth MM has been great and she has used it for 1.5 years now without a problem!

Still using mine that came with my 2006 Mac Pro, and its as good as the day i got it out the box - never had a problem with it, nor my wireless one i use with my MacBook.

I personally love the MM, works great and looks fantastic!

That Dell mouse is better than the Mighty Mouse, in my opinion. I also don't like the Apple desktop keyboard. If I wanted a laptop keyboard, I would've gotten a laptop. I still like their computers though.

Ditto. Take a stroll to Best Buy to try other mice out in person and then go home with some ideas and look them up online (a) because they're cheaper and (b) to see reviews.

Maybe.

Nah, even with the trackball not working at all, it's still a million times better than that mouse.

Why, you ask? Hint: That mouse has a ball, too.
