oh god…not the hockey puck!!

its not even ergonomically correct. the design is horrible.

it´s quite similar in feel to the last beige mouse apple made, and one of very few that doesn't give me strains…

pretty much any microsoft or logitech laser mouse is light years better than the mighty mouse.

…like any of those do.

choice of mouse is a personal one. i prefer a flat one over "ergonomically correct" monsters any time. but what´s so ergonomically correct with your wrist in a bend, beats me.

What mouse isn't better than the Mighty Mouse?

I love my Logitech MX520.

for many people, me included, and maybe most people.

any mice out there is better than the mighty expensice mouse from apple.

compared to the MX Revo from Logitech, it's $20 cheaper.

The better question is what mouse is not better than the mighty mouse?

Not many.

go to target.find the cheapest mouse they have.that is better than a mighty mouse

the mighty mouse blows. i never understood why apple would include such a terrible mouse with their computers. the only aspect of that mouse that i ever liked was the fact that it was bluetooth. other than that, its useless. its not even ergonomically correct. the design is horrible.

pretty much any microsoft or logitech laser mouse is light years better than the mighty mouse.

I'd take a regular mouse over any ergonomically crap any day, Apple MM or not. Those ergo nonsense is simply a phrase they use to con customers. My Dad had one of those junk mice and it sucked. The MM and some Logitechs are all well designed.

All of you must have really sweaty or dirty hands. I found after about 1 year of use that if you sweat like crazy, it will take about a month to lose the trackball. If you keep your hands relatively clean (like no eating, no sweating, etc) it will last for a few months. That's pretty good in my books. I've tried several Logitechs and the problem with the so-called wireless mice was that it still took up 1 USB port, had horrid battery life, and didn't work well on either Mac or Windows computers. If they made their mice Bluetooth instead of RF, then I'd say mice like the MX Revo would be better. But then again, it costs $20 more than the MM.

used mighty mouse for over a year liked it but then got a logitech mx revolution for a good deal too only 40 bucks from best buy. No contest the mx revo is 100 times better than the mighty mouse

I like the MM for some stuff but I much prefer my Razer Diamondback 3G. Amazing mouse that.

OK, so I have two Macs with two different Bluetooth mice. One is the mighty mouse - personally, I like it MOST of the time. The trackball gets dirty WAY too easy and the right click doesn't recognize as easily as I'd like, but I still like it overall, and it syncs MUCH better and more reliably than my other Bluetooth mouse.

The other one is a Rocketfish Apple Bluetooth mouse from BestBuy. Its nice and white and actually looks a lot like the mighty mouse. However, it has two REAL buttons and an old-fashioned scroll wheel (the click-click kind, but it does do horizontal, too). This mouse is more familiar if you're thinking of a typical PC mouse, and it matches either my Macs (both white) well. However, it doesn't feel as substantial as the mighty mouse, but then again I paid $20 on eBay for it vs. $49 (also on eBay) for my mighty mouse.

I like both of them, but in different ways. The mighty mouse is better for general stuff, the Rocketfish for gaming. There's my 2 cents... :)

I don't like the mouse personally, love the 360 scrolling hate the ergonomics, lack there of really, and the right click. But you can paint it black, maybe that makes it worth its price tag.

still in packaging

All my mighty mice are still in the same plastic packaging as when I bought my new machines, I refuse to use them and so they will continue to collect dust in my garage. When I bought my most recent machine I asked the person at the Apple store if I could give him the mouse and keep my ~$50 unfortunately he couldn't help me out.

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. It's, obviously, a bluetooth and laser precision mouse. I paid less (not much, but still less) than 50 bucks and it beats MM anytime. I don't have to worry of cleaning my hands every ten seconds, I have an extra customizable button and it does not take any USB port. Only down side I have found in more than 1 year is battery consumption, but that's kind of expected in a laser-bluetooth mouse.

A possible explanation...

I've had the same experiences with the mighty mouse that apparently many people have...after a month or two of everyday use, the track ball quits working. This has happened to me at least three times.

But I also had an sudden revelation as to why it was designed that way.

I started thinking about Apple's completely sterile, antiseptic retail stores, and then it hit me.

Apple is really owned by Howard Hughes. I suspect that Howard faked his own death, got a lot of plastic surgery and reinvented himself as Steve Jobs.

Does anyone know if Howard Hughes hated buttons? If so, this would cinch it!

Also, I would think we would agree that this is not as good as the MM.

I like the MM for some stuff but I much prefer my Razer Diamondback 3G. Amazing mouse that.

Razer mouses arn't compatible with me. They are too small and low for a large hand.

I love my wireless mighty mouse, it looks perfect with my white MacBook :D and my white desk..and my white iPod and...yeah you get the picture :p

Anyway, i really like the design of it, i don't like all these stupid ergonomically designed mouses that have buttons in the most stupid places, mainly because the ones i have seen all have to still use a USB port, why? thats practically the same as having a wired mouse, i won't go into the details but, it is. Cleaning the mightymouse after several hours of use is easy, just wipe it. A small amount of dirt gathers where i would click or on the sides where my other fingers would rest, and all i do is get a slightly wet tissue and wipe the dirt off, doesn't go yellow or anything, perfect :D.

The battery life and wireless connectivity of the MM, i personally think, are awesome. Two AA batteries last me a couple of months, 6-7 hours of use a day. The wireless via Bluetooth is perfect, and the range is sweet, i can stay connected to my mouse if i go into another room with my macbook (say, to show my brother something) then return to my desk and carry on using it without having to reconnect.

Functionality, well it took me a couple of days to get used to the whole "one button" thing, but i love it now :D and the 360 scrolling is perfect! Because i have a small resolution (1280x800) viewing large images is difficult, the 360 scroll makes it perfect, i can scroll left-right-up and down without having to use the scroll bars. And the "squeeze" is nice, i use it for exposé.

for gaming (on the windows side) it isn't very good, mainly because you can't hold right click and left click at the same time.

All in all, the mighty mouse is well, mighty :D

:D
On a more serious note, I prefer wired, optical/laser mice. I had an optical Logitech for years. Even though I wasn't anal retentive when it came to keeping my hands clean, it still worked like a charm. Best part is you can use optical on almost any surface, except glass or a mirror-esque surface.

Best of luck with your mouse hunt.

so how does mine still work after 5 years? Don't generalize your personal experience as everyone's.

Because you dont have a mighty mouse, you probably have the Pro mouse, which is a piece of crap too but is so simple that it should never break down. The MM came out around 3 years ago.

I personally like the MM. I had a old wired MM that the trackball stopped working period after a year and a half or so. I took it apart and cleaned the gunk out of the scrolling mechanism, put everything back together and it works like new. It was pretty simple to do...20 minutes. I use it w/ my MBP now.

I also have a bluetooth MM. It gets used a lot on the iMac. Its over 6 months old....no issues at all.....

As far as egro's...I can care less...again I think the MM is fine... It works for what it was designed to do, IMO. To each his own....

I use to build my own PC's for gaming purposes for several years. I built some pretty nice rigs. I quit a while back...logitech..microsoft...bleh! I abhor PC's these days and most things associated with them.

I love it I perfer its shape and I like not having a physical button.

the MM has one of the largets physical buttons of any mouse on the market.

Edit: As for the MM, that right click drives me crazy...mine refuses to cooperate when using 3d modeling software so I switched to all tablet all the time. But if I had to pick a wireless mouse, I'd go Logitech. MX Revolution. But expensive. I chose a wired Microsoft Optical mouse. $10 and they last, no side scrolling though.
